Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Haji Wright

Haji Wright is certainly finding his form ahead of another potential U.S. men’s national team opportunity.

Wright scored once and assisted once on Saturday as Coventry City defeated Middlesbrough 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium. The USMNT forward earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors after his third-straight goalscoring performance.

Wright doubled the Sky Blues’ lead at Middlesbrough before setting up Josh Eccles’ insurance finish five minutes later. The result marked Coventry City’s second win in a row while also extending their unbeaten run to three matches in league play.

The 26-year-old Wright remains an attacking option for Mauricio Pochettino this fall, and with Josh Sargent’s latest injury, could see a larger role against Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals.

Here is a look at some of the other top Americans Abroad performers from this past week:


Brenden Aaronson


Leeds United continue to stay near the top of the EFL Championship table after Brenden Aaronson netted his fourth goal of the season.

The hosts defeated Plymouth Argyle 3-0 at Elland Road on Saturday, keeping them three points back of leaders Sunderland. Aaronson capped off a fast trio of goals for Leeds United in the first half, logging 66 minutes in midfield.

Daniel Farke has continued to rely on Aaronson in the heart of his formation and its certainly working.


Paxten Aaronson


FC Utrecht made it back-to-back wins this week following Sunday’s 4-1 road Eredivisie victory over Sparta Rotterdam.

Paxten Aaronson scored his third goal of the season in the process, continuing an impactful loan spell from German side Eintracht Frankfurt. The 21-year-old Aaronson has helped FC Utrecht to a current third-place spot in the league table, which is a positive achievement so far.


Cameron Carter-Vickers


Celtic cruised its way to the Scottish League Cup Final on Saturday with Cameron Carter-Vickers opening the scoring at Hampden Park.

Carter-Vickers scored the opening goal as Celtic rolled past Aberdeen 6-0 in Glasgow. The USMNT defender logged 60+ minutes alongside international teammate Auston Trusty, as he continues to get back to full fitness following a toe issue earlier this fall.

He certainly will be in contention for a USMNT call up next week.


Emily Fox


Arsenal left Manchester with one point as right back Emily Fox continued a positive start to the season.

Fox assisted on Arsenal’s lone goal of the match in a 1-1 WSL draw with Manchester United. The 26-year-old defender completed 94% of her passes, won four of five duels, and made six defensive recoveries in the match.

Arsenal sits fifth in the WSL table through six matches played.
