Yunus Musah’s lengthy goalscoring drought at club level came to an end on Sunday.
Musah scored his first Serie A goal of the season in Atalanta’s 2-1 road loss to Sassuolo on Sunday. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder came off the bench and delivered a positive performance despite the club’s defeat.
Ismael Kone boosted Sassuolo in front after 23 minutes, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Kristian Thorstvedt doubled Sassuolo’s lead after the hour mark, two minutes after Musah entered the match.
Musah would trim the deficit with two minutes to play, giving Atalanta a late lifeline. The central midfielder arrived in the box before one-timing a Davide Zappacosta cross into the roof of the net.
It marked Musah’s first competitive club goal since scoring for Valencia against Atletico Madrid back on January 22, 2022.
Atalanta couldn’t find a second goal though, suffering its first Serie A defeat since December 28, 2025.
Musah, who has found it tough to earn consistent playing time this season, could very well jump into the starting lineup midweek. The 23-year-old has made 19 appearances this season in all competitions, the fewest of a single campaign in his senior career to date.
Atalanta will travel to Lazio on Wednesday in Coppa Italia action before hosting Udinese in Serie A play on Saturday.
