The Young and the Restless continues to be one of the most popular and prominent soap operas on American TV, and its strong storylines, layered characters, and dramatic themes continue to bring viewers to Genoa City. One of the biggest recent storylines the show has produced revolves around the identity of the mysterious tycoon Aristotle Dumas.
A recent jaw-dropping twist revealed that Aristotle was none other than Y&R fan favorite Cane Ashby, and this sets up a number of different scenarios and implications. Cane is now set to face a frosty reception from many in Genoa City, as he has been lying to them for years, but none more so than ex-wife Lily.
The Young and the Restless is already strongly hinting that Cane and Lily will end up back together, but this would be so infuriating after what he did to her. The former couple have been apart for some time now, and have children together, but the show reuniting them just wouldn’t feel right at this stage.
Young & The Restless Is Already Setting Up A Lily & Cane Reconciliation
The Duo Seem To Have Been Moving Toward A Reunion
In recent months, the show seems to be sowing the seeds of a Cane and Lily reunion. Cane has been romantically involved with The Young and the Restless characters, including Amber Moore and Chloe Mitchell in recent times, but a re-coupling with Lily would be one that would gain considerable fan interest.

Young & The Restless’ Cane Ashby Twist Just Saved The Aristotle Dumas Reveal From Being A Huge Letdown
The Young and the Restless spoiled the reveal of the actor playing Aristotle Dumas earlier this week but a twist behind the twist saved it.
The former spouses have grown closer in recent times, and the show does seem to have been setting up a reconciliation for them. However, the fact that Cane has now been revealed as Aristotle could impact a lot for the duo, and might actually drive Lily away from Cane, for good this time.
Cane certainly seems keen on a reconciliation with Lily, but right now this does not seem to be a viable option for her, understandably. However, given that Billy Flynn has recently taken over the role of Cane from long-running Y&R cast member Daniel Goddard, the show could be setting Cane up for a rebrand.
It Would Be A More Interesting Storyline For Cane To Not Win Her Back Over
‘Lane’ Should Be Kept Apart For The Good Of The Story
Cane has revealed his Aristotle alter ego, and is now setting about trying to make amends and win back the trust of those he has been deceiving, but it seems like he thinks this is going to happen pretty easily. In reality, he has hurt a lot of people, and it is going to take a long time to change that fact.

This Week On The Young & the Restless: Aristotle Dumas’ Identity Reveal Promises To Shake Things Up
The Aristotle Dumas storyline will come to a head when his identity is finally revealed this week. Elsewhere, Tessa & Mariah hit a breaking point.
There is a chance that some of the characters will be able to forgive Cane over time for his deception, but it feels unlikely that Lily will be able to forgive him so easily. Lily has had her trust broken forever, and this is not something that should be glossed over, so the hope is that the show keeps them apart.
Though Amanda has shown she’s willing to trust Cane again on Y&R, it is unlikely that Lily will feel the same, and this confirms that they should not be together. Even if Lily says that she forgives Cane, it is going to be a long time before she can learn to trust him again, and this is no basis for a romantic relationship.
It Would Be A Disservice To Lily’s Character To Forgive Cane So Easily
Lily Is Better Than That & Should Have More Self-Respect
Lily and Cane might have been a great match once upon a time, but the two have been apart for some time now, and it would feel hollow to force them back together. Lily needs to have more respect for herself than to forgive Cane after what he has done, and letting him back in now would be a big negative for her life.

Y&R’s Aristotle Dumas Reveal Just Set Up The Soap’s Next Great Feud
After the reveal of who Aristotle Dumas is and realizing he is Cane Ashby on The Young and the Restless, a new show feud is starting to brew.
The fact that Cane has been lying to Lily for six years, despite being the father of their children, is, frankly, pretty disgusting, and not something that should be glossed over. This is an important and major betrayal for both her and their kids, and Cane does not deserve to win her trust and commitment back again.
Cane’s betrayal is a more personal breach of trust for Lily than for any other character, and allowing Cane back into her life after this would be setting a dangerous precedent. If Cane is forgiven for this, it will be handing him back power, but will also make him more likely to deceive Lily again in the future.
Per ComingSoon, Lily actress Christel Khalil stated her belief that Cane and Lily will not be getting back together, and that Lily is furious with Cane and what he has done. But, in the world of soaps, anything can happen, and the fact that Cane is essentially an entirely new character now does leave the door slightly ajar for reconciliation.
However, Lily Also Can’t Run To Damian Just To Spite Cane
Any Coupling For Lily Needs To Come From The Right Place
The way things are poised right now, Lily is set to lean on Damian for support, and could develop a physical relationship with him. However, using Damian to forget Cane, or even to spite Cane, is not the right approach, and could add more drama to her life, especially if Cane and Phyllis get together at the same time.

Y&R Hints The Key To Understanding Cane Ashby’s Aristotle Dumas Scheme Could Be This Unexpected Guest
Cane Ashby’s Aristotle Dumas scheme seems impossible to unpack, but The Young and the Restless character’s entire plan might hinge on Chance.
Damian might be a better option than Cane at this stage, but Lily needs time by herself, and the soap should have her deal with these new revelations on her own instead of relying on a man. If she is to develop a romance with Damian, it needs to be organic and come from the right place, not done out of spite.
The fact that neither Khalil nor Flynn are set to be leaving The Young and the Restless cast in 2025 means there is ample opportunity for storytelling between the two characters. However, Lily’s story seems to be heading in a new direction, and I hope the show keeps her single, rather than forcing her to go to Cane or Damian.
