“In the second season of ‘1923,’ a cruel winter brings new challenges and unfinished business to Jacob (Ford) and Cara (Mirren) back at Dutton ranch. With harsh conditions and adversaries threatening to end the Dutton legacy, Spencer (Sklenar) embarks on an arduous journey home, racing against time to save his family in Montana. Meanwhile, Alexandra (Schlaepfer) sets off on her own harrowing trans-Atlantic journey to find Spencer and reclaim their love.”
‘1923’ Has Divided Critics and Audiences
Debuting back in 2022, the first season of 1923 picks up a century before the events of the hugely popular Yellowstone, and tells the next installment of the Dutton family origin story. The prequel introduces a new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob (Ford) and matriarch Cara (Mirren), following a generation of the Dutton family in 1923. The series will pick up with the family during a time of various hardships, including Western Expansion, pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. Each of these plagues the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home.

Yellowstone director says audiences “are not supposed to be okay” with one of the major plot twists of Season 5.
Much like the mothership series, Yellowstone, 1923 has been met with widespread critical acclaim. The prequel series’ first outing achieved a “certified fresh” rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics loving the “ineffable star power of Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren,” and calling 1923 “another solid if unrelentingly grim addition to Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe.”
However, these feelings were not shared by audiences, with the series slapped with a score of 57% on the Popcornmeter. Despite this, 1923 saw huge viewership on Paramount+, reaching heights of 7.4 million viewers with its debut episode and thus becoming the biggest debut ever on the streamer.
