Wor Flags have confirmed that the Kevin Keegan display planned for Wednesday’s clash with Liverpool will NOT take place this week.
The fan-led supporter group have confirmed that a St James’ Park tribute to King Kev will go ahead in the near future, but they ‘felt the timing called for something different.’
This suggests that a message of solidarity and support may be sent to Eddie Howe and/or the players instead in their pre-match display before Wednesday’s 7.30pm kick-off, with Wor Flags feeling that the ‘current group’ needs their support to help whip up a ‘massive atmosphere’ against the top-of-the-table Red.
This also comes after Sky Sports presenter and Newcastle fan Pete Graves has confirmed that Kevin Keegan will not be in attendance for the Liverpool game. Perhaps this, mixed in with Wor Flags’ wish to support the team after a tough week, explains the change of plan?
Wor Flags’ message on X
‘Thanks to your incredibly generous donations, we have all the makings of a display fit for King Kev. We’re excited to share this with you in the future. This week however, we felt the timing called for something different.’
‘To clarify, we will still be doing a Kevin Keegan display in the future and none of the money raised for the Keegan display specifically has been used for another display. We are just letting everyone know it won’t be this week.
‘We always try our best to set the right tone at matches based on the feeling at the time, from that it’s clear that our message needs to be for the current group and to try help create a massive atmosphere on Wednesday night’
It’ll be interesting to see what Wor Flags have in store for us tomorrow night, with their last display dedicated to Alexander Isak before that 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the end of November.
Whether you agree on the change of heart or not following Saturday’s dismal display at Palace, let’s hope the pre-match message hits the spot and we see a much-improved performance in the first of two huge tests for Eddie Howe this week.
