Thor’s trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is almost entirely focused on the god of thunder, with the footage briefly showing him with a young girl. In the only footage that doesn’t take place as Thor prays in the forest, Chris Hemsworth’s character is seen in a small bedroom with a child, who is getting ready for bed.
The identity of this girl may be a point of confusion for some viewers. She’s not someone who was part of Thor’s story during the Infinity Saga. Rather, she’s a newer character named Love introduced in the Multiverse Saga, who is now making an unexpected return in Avengers: Doomsday.
Love Is Thor’s Adopted Daughter
Thor’s trailer includes Love because she is now his adopted daughter after the events of Thor: Love and Thunder. She is the biological daughter of Gorr the God Butcher, but she died at a young age. This led to Gorr becoming a god-slaying, revenge-seeking villain. She was ultimately resurrected by Eternity per Gorr’s wish, even though he died shortly thereafter.
Thor swore to protect Love, treating her as his own daughter. The duo went on to live on an unspecified planet so he could train her to be a hero. This included giving her Stormbreaker to use as a weapon as they fought to protect those in need.
While Love is just a child, she is incredibly powerful. Her resurrection through Eternity gave her cosmic energy manipulation abilities. This includes being able to shoot cosmic rays from her eyes. According to Korg, she has the powers of a god, even if the MCU has yet to fully tap into the extent of her abilities.
What Is Love’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday?
The trailer confirms that Love will be in Avengers: Doomsday to some degree. The exact nature of her role is not clear, but the footage suggests that she’ll be an important part of Thor’s storyline.
He’s heard and shown praying to Odin that he gets to see Love one more time. The full context of that line is impossible to know at this moment, but there are a few different possibilities that point to the role Thor’s adopted daughter will play.
The first is that Love has been taken from Thor. Doctor Doom has already taken Franklin Richards and separated him from his parents, so perhaps he will also abduct Love. Even Steve Rogers’ son could be another target.
The other option is that Thor is preparing to embark on a dangerous mission. He knows there is a chance that he doesn’t make it out of this one alive, which would mean he will never see Love again.
In either case, Love’s role in Avengers: Doomsday could be more secondary and contextual than having a massive amount of screentime.
