Spoilers ahead for Devil May Cry Season 1
The verdict is in: critics (and fans, to an extent) approve of Netflix‘s adaptation of Devil May Cry. The series is an adaptation of Capcom’s video game series of the same name. It landed in Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows during its debut weekend and is currently trending at number 6. The plot centers around Dante, a demon hunter who combats demon invasions on Earth. The video game adaptation has received a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and a 62% rating from audiences. With a high approval rating, it’s no surprise that Netflix has renewed the series for Season 2.
Following the Season 2 renewal, Devil May Cry fans are already speculating about storylines and characters that could be introduced. We’re thrilled the show is coming back, especially after the cliffhanger at the end of Season 1. While Netflix develops the next season of Devil May Cry, fans are dreaming about where Season 2 could take Dante’s story and which characters will make the cut.

Season 2 of Devil May Cry has officially been greenlit by Netflix. Given Netflix’s history of announcing series cancellations at random times, the fan anxiety over the new anime series is understandable. Considering the critics’ and audience’s responses, the anime series has a lot of potential and, given the opportunity, can grow with each season.
In 2018, Netflix announced the anime adaptation of Devil May Cry, with Adi Shankar as showrunner. It’s been a long time coming for the show to make its way to screens and for Shankar to honor Capcom’s legacy. The eight-episode anime has barely scratched the surface of the Devil May Cry lore, and Shankar has been vocal about wanting to produce multiple seasons of the project. With the cliffhanger in mind, it’s clear where the series is headed now that Netflix has given Shankar the thumbs-up to move forward, but fans will have to patiently wait until Season 2 is released.
‘Devil May Cry’ Season 1 Ends With a Cliffhanger, Setting up a Potential Season 2
Season 1 introduced the White Rabbit as the villain, acting opposite of Dante, and was initially portrayed as a demon. However, as the season progressed, audiences came to understand that the White Rabbit happened to be a misunderstood character after all. He was a human who had crossed over into the demonic realm when he was a child and found acceptance among demons as opposed to human beings.
Growing up with beings who accepted him, he grew more attached to their survival than the human race, so, from that perspective, his actions are understandable, although justifiable is another conversation entirely. Despite his misguided efforts, the season ends with the White Rabbit’s death and Dante successfully preventing a demonic invasion.

However, just before the final shot hits the screen, a figure emerges from the shadows, and it’s none other than Vergil, Dante’s evil twin. After witnessing a demonic attack against his mother and brother, Dante believed that they were dead until that moment. With the brothers being on opposite sides, there’s no doubt that they will clash in Season 2. Vergil’s whereabouts will also be revealed, as well as explaining how he became who he is, and this would also give the creators a chance to introduce Mundus to the storyline and unveil his role in persuading Vergil to join the demons’ side.
‘Devil May Cry’ Season 2 Could Introduce New Characters
One of the things in Devil May Cry Season 1 that may have been upsetting to fans is the limited number of characters that made their way to the television reboot from the video game. This was a smart decision from an entertainment standpoint because it allows the showrunners to up the ante in future seasons and keep building momentum. It would also be anticlimactic and overwhelming if all the iconic characters were thrown into the first season, and the storyline runs the risk of losing its consistency. Season 1 introduced Dante, the protagonist, Mary, Vergil, the White Rabbit, Vice President Baines, Enzo Ferino, Darkcom Soldiers, and many more.

Hopes for Castlevania: Nocturne Season 3 and beyond rest entirely on the fan base, says director Samuel Deats.
Season 2 could introduce some other fan favorites, like Nicoletta “Nico” Goldstein, Trish, Lucia, Nero, and Mundus, to name a few. With a potential clash between Vergil and Dante, there’s a high possibility that Mundus will make his entrance next season if Netflix decides to renew the series. The showrunners have access to Devil May Cry characters that span five video games, so they have enough to produce accurate yet new storylines. We can’t wait to see which ones they pick for Season 2. Devil May Cry is streaming on Netflix.
