‘We Live in Time’ Streaming on Max in February

If you’re looking for a good cry from the comfort of your own home, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh have got you covered with a streaming date for their romantic drama We Live in Time. The film impressed critics when it was released last year, and now you can track the emotional journey of the characters played by Garfield and Pugh just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Max has announced that We Live in Time will hit the streaming service on Friday, Feb. 7, but if you’re not a subscriber, you can catch the movie when it premieres on HBO linear on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 8:00 PM EST. This is all perfectly timed in the days before Valentine’s Day, when a film like this has full potential to shine at home. We Live in Time has legit tearjerking moments, but the palpable chemistry between Garfield and Pugh could make just about any of us fall in love.

Directed by John Crowley from a screenplay by Nick Payne, We Live in Time chronicles the relationship of couple Tobias Durand (Garfield) and Almut Brühl over a decade. Using a nonlinear narrative, the film tracks how their unusual first encounter leads to a love story that sees them start a home and family until one big revelation threatens the very foundation of everything they’ve built.

Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s Chemistry Wowed Critics

We Live in Time made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, with A24 acquiring the rights to release the movie in the U.S. The film was released to solid reviews, securing a 78% on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that reads, “Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s palpable chemistry will snatch audiences’ hearts before breaking them in We Live in Time, a powerful melodrama that uses its nonlinear structure to thoughtfully explore grief.”

“At a certain point, both of us, we’re both kind of telepathically saying to each other, ‘This definitely feels like a longer take.'”

A24 opted to open the film in limited release before expanding to additional theaters in subsequent weeks. By the end of its run, the movie grossed $24.7 million domestically and $38.8 million worldwide. While that gross seems modest, it actually puts the film in the top 20 highest-grossing A24 films, ahead of other buzzy titles from the indie studio such as Ex Machina, Spring Breakers, Priscilla, and The Disaster Artist, to name a few.

Spending a night with We Live in Time is certainly worth it. While its melodrama will feel familiar, Garfield and Pugh make the movie something really special, and you’d have to have a heart made of stone to not be moved by it just a little bit. Definitely a movie that should find an even bigger audience via streaming.
