Manchester United legend has made his feelings known about Marcus Rashford as the winger continues his loan tenure at FC Barcelona.
From the moment that manager Ruben Amorim arrived at Old Trafford, it became clear that he wasn’t fond of Rashford.
With the Englishman dropped from Amorim’s lineup almost immediately, it didn’t take long for the Portuguese manager to decide to send Rashford out on loan to Aston Villa until the end of the season.
Having produced some fine performances at Villa Park, Rashford earned numerous admirers during his loan spell last season. Still, it wasn’t enough to convince Amorim to let him back into the fold.
With Amorim seemingly taking a concrete stance on the winger’s future, Rooney appears to be in staunch disagreement with the United boss.
Rashford’s future
It appears as if Rashford is destined to leave Man United, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that Barcelona are very happy with the winger, who appears to be quite popular with his teammates. Clearly, his attitude at the Nou Camp seems to have improved.
While Barcelona appear to be in no rush to secure a deal, they are open to considering a permanent transfer for Rashford if his performances remain strong.
At the moment, he seems to be meeting the club’s requirements, having just bagged an assist in Barca’s recent 2-1 defeat to bitter rivals Real Madrid.
While Amorim might be tempted to facilitate Rashford’s departure, Rooney believes that this could be a mistake.
Rooney on Rashford
On The Wayne Rooney Show, the United legend explained: “I’d much prefer to see him do that for Man United, if I’m honest. But no, listen, I don’t think it was the easiest start, the first couple of games, and there were people talking about him, but he’s got his head down, he’s doing well, he’s playing well, and for any young English player, and especially someone you know and you want to do well, it’s great to see that.”
Despite Amorim’s issue with Rashford, Rooney remained adamant with his praise of the winger: “Listen, Marcus Rashford at his best is a top, top player and that’s what we all want to see and just hope he stays settled and he keeps performing, keeps working and if he does that then I don’t think there’s any doubt about his ability.”
While Rashford undoubtedly contributed a lot to United when he was at his peak, it might be for the best for the club to party ways with him given the locker room drama he brought with him.
Even putting such problems aside, it’s difficult to see how he would fit back into the club with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo performing so admirably this season.
