Courtney Barnett is back with her first new music in two years. The Australian indie rocker has shared the new song “Stay in Your Lane” along with a music video directed by filmmaker Alex Ross Perry. Check it out below.
Barnett recorded “Stay in Your Lane” to work through the stress of bottling up feelings and an airing of grievances. Joining her in the Los Angeles studio to record were Warpaint drummer Stella Mozgawa, the Last Shadow Puppets’ Zach Dawes on bass, and John Congleton behind the boards as a producer. Per a press release, Barnett has been “quietly making her live return” by road-testing new music at intimate shows lately. On October 22, the singer-songwriter will bring “Stay in Your Lane” to the national stage by performing the new song on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
Although Barnett put out End of the Day in 2023, her last studio album was technically 2021’s Things Take Time, Take Time, as that recent LP was an instrumental record featuring music Barnett conceived for the documentary film Anonymous Club. Her next full-length record will be the fifth studio album of her career.
