Warner Bros. Just Rescued a Canceled Netflix Movie After Two Years

Anthony Lund is a senior news writer and editor at MovieWeb from a small village in the U.K. with an avid love of all genres of TV and film. A child of the 80s, he is the owner of almost 2000 books, more toys than his children, three Warner Bros. Store Gremlins and a production used Howard The Duck movie script. He has built up a deep knowledge of movie trivia, iconic quotes, and will stand by his belief that Aliens beats The Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2 as the greatest sequel of all time.

Warner Bros. Pictures has become notorious in recent years for scrapping movies, but in a surprising twist, it seems that the studio has actually come to the rescue of a movie that Netflix shut down after budget disputes. Two years after Nancy Meyers’ first movie in a decade found no love at Netflix, it seems that the romantic comedy Paris Paramount will now be financed by Warner Bros., but may surprisingly have even less of a budget than Netflix would have agreed to.

According to a new report from World of Reel, Paris Paramount has been in limbo since 2023 when Netflix would not bend to Meyers’ request for a $150 million budget for her directorial comeback. Although Netflix were reportedly happy to put $130 million into the feature, sources have claimed that despite Warner Bros. agreeing to back the movie, it could be with a budget more in line with $100 million. This makes the news surprising, but not unheard of, as there could be other reasons for Meyers agreeing to work with the studio on the film.

Paris Paramount was originally set to star Owen Wilson, Michael Fassbender, Scarlett Johansson, and Penélope Cruz as its four leads. Due to the length of time that has passed, it has been noted that recasting of the roles is underway, and it could be that some lower paychecks could be as much a reason for this as the time since that casting was put in place. Filming on the movie is expected to start in early 2026.
