Vote for USMNT International Goal of the Year

It’s December, U.S. Soccer has announced their nominees for 2024 end-of-year awards, and now it’s our turn here at Stars and Stripes FC.

Let’s start with International Goal of the Year, which goes to the best goal from a USMNT game this calendar year. Depending on how things play out, we’re hoping to have a few more categories:

• Club Goal of the Year
• International Assist of the Year
• Club Assist of the Year

The Nominees

Tyler Adams vs Mexico – Nations League final – March 24

Starting things off with a banger! Adams absolutely smashed this one. It ended up being the deciding goal as the USMNT lifted the 2024 Nations League trophy.

Gio Reyna vs Mexico – Nations League final – March 24

Later in the same game, Gio Reyna fired this jumping volley past Memo Ochoa into the net. I almost didn’t include this one since it comes from the same game as Adams’ long-range bomb, but ultimately thought it had enough quality to stand on its own merit.

Christian Pulisic vs Bolivia – Copa America group stage – Jun 23

Pulisic started the party at Copa America with this goal. Curled past the outstretched fingers of the Bolivian ‘keeper, it was a thing of beauty.

Folarin Balogun vs Panama – Copa America group stage – Jun 27

The Panama game was one to forget for many reasons, but this goal from Balogun is worth remembering. He had no hesitation whatsoever in firing this one, and it found the far post perfectly.

Yunus Musah vs Panama – friendly – Oct 12

The first-time volleyed finish from Musah is nice, but this is just a great team goal. The buildup that led to Musah being in that spot (especially Christian Pulisic’s involvement not once, but twice) was a sweet beginning to the Pochettino era.

Christian Pulisic vs Jamaica – Nations League quarterfinal – Nov 18

I think this one might be the most fun. Weston McKennie did a great job putting the ball in a perfect position for Pulisic (and putting goalkeeper Andre Blake in a really tough position). Pulisic dinked it home. Pure joy to watch.

Tim Weah vs Jamaica – Nations League quarterfinal – Nov 18

Weah wasn’t about to let Pulisic have all the glory in the second leg against Jamaica at home. Musah found Weah in the box, and Tim let fly with this rocket.
