February 27 – Mercury13, the women’s soccer-focused investment group, has confirmed the departure of co-founder and co-CEO Victoire Cogevina Reynal, the public face of the project since its launch.
The multi-club ownership group has begun the search for a new chief executive, with majority owner Avenue Sports overseeing the transition alongside board directors Todd Marcy, Brian Lasky, and former US women’s national team star turned investor Lauren Holiday.
On Reynal’s departure, Holiday said: “We are thankful to Victoire for her contribution to Mercury13’s growth. Mercury13 and its clubs are in a strong position to capitalize on the unique opportunities presented by the continued growth of women’s football.”
Reynal reflected on her tenure, stating: “Today marks the end of my chapter at Mercury13. From the start, Mercury13 was rooted in a mission to accelerate the commercial recognition of European women’s football and unlock its full potential.
“I built this company to demonstrate what is possible when the women’s game is approached with conviction, innovation, and long-term belief.”
She described her time at Mercury13 as “the privilege of my lifetime” and believes the “game is in a better place” following their investment.
Mercury13 entered club ownership in March 2024 with the acquisition of FC Como Women, before expanding its portfolio in September 2025 with a majority stake in Bristol City Women.
Its investor list reads like a who’s who of modern football influence, from Italian and Spanish greats, Giorgio Chiellini and Juan Mata, to the controversial figure of former Lioness, Eniola Aluko, alongside UK businessman Sir Martin Broughton.
When Mercury13 launched in early 2023, it pledged to deploy up to $100 million to acquire women’s clubs across Europe and Latin America. Two years on, amid surging franchise values and a rapidly professionalising landscape, it looks like one of the smartest moves in football.
