Everyone’s favorite aged action hero, Liam Neeson, is back doing what he does best and headed to Netflix as his latest chilling action thriller lands a streaming release date. Landing in select theaters back in June, Neeson returns to the driving seat for the action thriller sequel, Ice Road: Vengeance, which finds the Taken star back on action hero duty and fighting to rescue a group of tourists from a gang of mercenaries.
Picking up after the events of The Ice Road, which was released back in 2021, Ice Road: Vengeance sees director Jonathan Hensleigh once again take the wheel as he brings Neeson’s intrepid truck driver Mike McCann back for more action thrills. Once again led by Liam Neeson, with the rest of the cast comprised of Fan Bingbing (The 355), Bernard Curry (Impact Earth), and Grace O’Sullivan (The Royal Hotel, The Secret She Keeps), Ice Road: Vengeance is now due to be released on Netflix on September 15, 2025 (via What’s on Netflix). You can check out the official synopsis for the survival action thriller follow-up below:
Big rig ice road driver Mike McCann (Liam Neeson) travels to Nepal to scatter his late brother’s ashes on Mt. Everest. While on a packed tour bus traversing the deadly 12,000 ft. terrain of the infamous Road to the Sky, McCann and his mountain guide (Fan Bingbing) encounter a group of ruthless mercenaries and must fight to save not only themselves but the innocent passengers and a local village on the brink of destruction.
‘Ice Road: Vengeance’ Was Met With a Chilly Reception, but Who Really Cares?
Netflix scoring an imminent release for Ice Road: Vengeance comes following the streamer’s connection with the first movie, which saw the platform release The Ice Road as a Netflix Original. The first Liam Neeson-led action outing is still available to stream on Netflix, meaning fans of the actor will soon be able to host an Ice Road double-bill.
While the first The Ice Road left Neeson’s Taken persona behind somewhat, telling a more straightforward survival tale about a ‘big-rig’ trucker on a rescue mission to save some trapped miners, Ice Road: Vengeance leans much more into Neeson’s particular set of skills. Unfortunately, this was not enough to save the action thriller from the wrath of critics, with the sequel landing a score of just 19% on Rotten Tomatoes.
One of the most brutal reviews at the time came courtesy of M.N. Miller of FandomWire, who wondered whether Neeson is “part of an elaborate fraternity prank? Blackmail? A fan of career suicide that borders on professional masochism?” However, on the more positive side, Brian Orndorf of Blu-ray.com found Ice Road: Vengeance to be another enjoyable action B-movie led by the ever-reliable Neeson, saying, “There’s roughly the same mix of passable excitement and B-movie silliness to provide an entertaining sit, and while Neeson may be on autopilot at this point, he remains an enjoyably gruff action figure.”
While Ice Road: Vengeance didn’t fare too much better with audiences either (32% on the Popcornmeter), does it really matter? By now, genre fans know what they’re getting with a Liam Neeson action flick, and while Ice Road: Vengeance may not set the screen alight, sometimes simply watching the renowned actor do his thing hits the spot like nothing else.
