USWNT SheBelieves Cup roster released

USWNT SheBelieves Cup roster released

The United States Women’s National Team is ready to take on some top level competition this month. Today, U.S. Soccer announced the 23-player roster for the 2025 SheBelieves Cup, which begins next week.

It’s the first SheBelieves Cup for USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, and her job is to continue to bring this team together while it goes for its sixth straight SheBelieves Cup title. Hayes hopes that this team can perform well against Colombia, Australia, and Japan in the three matches over the next couple weeks.

“This team is still growing, and I continue to be impressed with the dedication of our player pool to get better, individually and as a group,” Hayes said in a statement. “With many players at the beginning of their club preseasons, we’ll be patient with them but at the same time, we’re going to maximize the time we have together. We are facing three excellent teams with three very different styles and the tournament will be a great test to see who can perform against world-class players, but to see that, we need to give them opportunities. We have put in a lot of thought on how best to accomplish that while continuing to evolve and putting out a team that can win, so every game should be a lot of fun for the staff, the players and the fans.”

The USWNT SheBelieves Cup roster:

GOALKEEPERS (2): Jane Campbell (Houston Dash), Mandy McGlynn (Utah Royals)

DEFENDERS (8): Tierna Davidson (NJ/NY Gotham FC), Crystal Dunn (Paris Saint-Germain), Emily Fox (Arsenal FC), Tara McKeown (Washington Spirit), Jenna Nighswonger (Arsenal FC), Emily Sams (Orlando Pride), Emily Sonnett (NJ/NY Gotham FC), Gisele Thompson (Angel City FC)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Korbin Albert (Paris Saint-Germain), Sam Coffey (Portland Thorns), Lindsey Heaps (Olympique Lyon), Claire Hutton (Kansas City Current), Jaedyn Shaw (North Carolina Courage), Lily Yohannes (Ajax)

FORWARDS (7): Lynn Biyendolo (Seattle Reign), Michelle Cooper (Kansas City Current), Catarina Macario (Chelsea FC), Yazmeen Ryan (Houston Dash), Emma Sears (Racing Louisville), Ally Sentnor (Utah Royals), Alyssa Thompson (Angel City FC)

Hayes also named three players to the training roster: Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, Angel City defender Savy King and Bay FC midfielder Hannah Bebar. They will train with the squad, but will not be on the game roster for any of the matches.

There are 12 players on the roster that competed in the 2024 Olympics, but only four players on this roster started over 5 matches in that tournament. Hayes’ goal there is to provide more opportunities for the rest of the player pool. Triple Espresso – the front line of Trinity Rodman, Sophia Wilson (neé Smith), and Mal Swanson – will once again miss this camp as they continue to build back into preseason condition after recovery from injuries. Mal Swanson is out on personal leave from the Chicago Stars and is excused from this camp accordingly.

The roster includes 12 players from the 22-player squad that won the 2024 Paris Olympics but just four players who started five or more games in the tournament, so the theme of increased opportunity for the player pool once again will be at the forefront during the three SheBelieves Cup matches. Three players on this roster – Gisele Thompson, Michelle Cooper, and Claire Hutton – were on the Futures Camp roster that trained alongside the USWNT last month in Florida.

Both Alyssa and Gisele Thompson make this roster, which marks just the third time ever that a pair of sisters have been on the same USWNT roster. The last time it happened was Sam & Kristie Mewis being on the 2021 Olympic team together.

The USWNT play Colombia to open their SheBelieves Cup on February 20th. That match is followed by games against Australia on February 23rd and Japan on February 26th.
