The United States Women’s National Team were once again able to get a victory against Ireland as they won 4-0 in their second friendly of the international window. Lynn Biyendolo, Izzy Rodriguez, Yazmeen Ryan, and Alyssa Thompson scored the goals for the USWNT.
Head coach Emma Hayes changed the entire lineup, presenting a completely new starting XI that included forward Lynn Biyendolo donning the captain’s armband for the first time. The captain opened up the scoring in the 11th minute when she played the ball to Emma Sears on the wing. Sears chipped a great ball into the box and Biyendolo was able to volley it in to make it 1-0.
The USWNT added another one just before halftime when Olivia Moultrie passed to Sears, who fired a shot on goal. Izzy Rodriguez, who was making her USWNT debut, was able to secure the rebound off the save and finish it to double the lead.
The USWNT went to halftime up 2-0 and they continued to add more in the second half. In the 66th minute, Yazmeen Ryan added a third goal for the United States when she was able to finish off an Olivia Moultrie pass.
Alyssa Thompson was able to make it 4-0 in the 86th minute after coming on as a substitute. Sam Coffey sent Claire Hutton on a run, and Hutton was able to chip the ball into the box to find Thompson. Thompson fired the shot home to get a goal in her second straight match. The match ended with Mandy McGlynn and the defense keeping the clean sheet and a 4-0 victory. The win was the 600th in USWNT history.
The USWNT are back in action on Wednesday in Washington, DC when they take on Canada in the Continental Clásico to close out the summer international window.
