USMNT weekend viewing guide: Picking up the pace

The weekend is here – let’s see what USMNT action we have to look forward to!

Friday

Borussia Dortmund v Bayer Leverkusen – 2:45p on ESPN+

Gio Reyna has appeared in seven straight games for Borussia Dortmund though he’s started only twice and has yet to log 200 minutes on the season. Dortmund are in sixth place heading into their matchup against last years league winners who currently trail Bayern Munich by four points nearly halfway through the season.

Rayo Vallecano v Celta Vigo – 3p on ESPN+

Is Luca de la Torre back on the outs? A month after picking up an assist in 27’ minutes off the bench in Celta Vigo’s Copa del Ray win over Salamanca de la Torre was not included in the squad that travelled to Racing Santander last weekend. de la Torre has made the bench for Celta’s last two league matches but has still appeared just once this season and the current rumors are that the club would like to move him this window but are becoming frustrated by the apparent lack of interest.

Saturday

Ross County v Celtic – 7:30a on Paramount+

Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been the starting center-back duo for the last two Celtic matches. The team fell to Rangers 3-0 to start the month but still hold a fifteen point advantage for first place heading into their matchup with tenth place Ross County.

Heidenheim v Union Berlin – 9:30a on ESPN+

Jordan Pefok and Union Berlin visit Lennard Maloney and Heidenheim in the Bundesliga. Union sit in comfortable 12th position, while Heidenheim are 16th of 18, currently in the relegation playoff spot.

Bournemouth v West Brom – 10a on ESPN+

Tyler Adams and Bournemouth host West Brom in the FA Cup third round. 18-year-old American defender Matai Akinmboni recently joined Adams at Bournemouth on a reported $2.5m transfer from DC United. Daryl Dike is expected to be back with Albion in late January as he’s working his way back from an Achilles injury suffed in late August.

Real Valladolid v Real Betis – 10:15a on ESPN Deportes and ESPN+

Johnny Cardoso and Betis visit Valladolid. Ninth-place Betis will be favorites against Valladolid, who are 20th of 20 in La Liga.

Torino v Juventus – Noon on Paramount+

Weston McKennie the left back, Tim Weah, and Juve will stay in their own city of Turin as they meet Torino on Saturday.

Borussia Monchengladbach v Bayern Munich – 12:30p on ESPN+

Joe Scally and Gladbach welcome Bayern into town. The intensity will be top-notch in this one.

Leeds United v Harrogate Town – 12:45p on ESPN+

Brenden Aaronson and Leeds host League Two side Harrogate in the FA Cup third round.

AC Milan v Cagliari – 2:45p on Paramount+

Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, and Milan will be flying high after lifting the Italian Supercup against archrivals Inter on Monday.

PSV v AZ – 3p on ESPN+

Malik Tillman, Ricardo Pepi, Richy Ledezma, and PSV look to continue cruising through the Eredivisie when they host AZ Alkmaar on Saturday.

Sunday

Venezia v Inter Milan – 9a on Paramount+

Gianluca Busio and 19th-place Venezia host Inter, who sit third in Serie A. It will be a big challenge for Venezia to keep Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in check.

Crystal Palace v Stockport County – 10a on ESPN+

Chris Richards and Crystal Palace host Stockport County in the third round of the FA Cup. Stockport were promoted from League Two last season and are 7th of 24 in League One, just outside the playoff spots. Perhaps this cup match could be a chance for Matt Turner to get a game for Palace.

Toulouse v Strasbourg – 11:15a on beIN Sports

Mark McKenzie and Strasbourg (10th) could use this away match as a chance to pick up points on 8th-place Toulouse.
