USMNT midweek roundup: Adams over Jedi, Richards & Palace give up 5, Emenalo in Chelsea squad

Here’s a bullet-point rundown of the USMNT players whose clubs were in action this weekend (Friday through Sunday). Players are divided by position groups (that helps my depth-chart-oriented brain to process this information most usefully). Within position groups, players are listed chronologically, in order of when their games took place. Stats are from FotMob.

Strikers

Injured: Ricardo Pepi (knee, out for season), Jordan Morris (hamstring, back on the bench)

Wingers and attacking mids

Injured: Malik Tillman (lower leg/foot discomfort, unknown), Kevin Paredes (ankle, back on the bench), Taylor Booth (unknown, day-to-day), Cole Campbell (knock, a few days)

• Haji Wright played 89 minutes and missed 1 big chance in Coventry’s 1-1 draw with Hull City on Monday. Wright took 4 shots, and hit the woodwork once.
• Matko Miljevic scored a penalty that turned out to be the game-winner and created 3 chances in Huracán’s 2-1 win over Central Córdoba on Monday. Miljevic was rated Man of the Match by FotMob.

• Gio Reyna played 26 minutes off the bench in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Barcelona on Tuesday in Champions League. Dortmund lost 3-5 on aggregate, and are eliminated from Champions League.

• Cade Cowell played 28 minutes off the bench and missed 1 big chance as Chivas won 1-0 over Puebla on Tuesday.
• Alex Zendejas played the full 90, missed 1 big chance, and created 1 chance in Club América’s 0-1 loss to Monterrey on Wednesday.

Center mids

Injured: James Sands (broken leg, mid-July), Leon Flach (unknown)

I spent a few moments questioning why we’re celebrating Tyler fouling someone and then yelling at him. Then I realized that both the accounts that posted it (Men in Blazers with the original post, and USMNT Only with the repost) are big accounts just looking for engagement. It makes sense from that standpoint.

• Johnny Cardoso played 19 minutes off the bench and created 1 chance in Real Betis’ 1-1 draw with Jagiellonia Białystok in Conference League on Thursday, advancing 3-1 on aggregate.
• Leon Flach was not in Jagiellonia Białystok’s squad for the draw with Betis. Flach picked up an injury and had to be subbed out only 5 minutes into Jagiellonia’s game on Sunday.
• Tanner Tessmann played 65 minutes off the bench and created 1 chance in Lyon’s wild 4-5 loss to Manchester United in Europa League on Thursday. Lyon lost 6-7 on aggregate, eliminating them from Europa League.

• 17-year-old English-American defensive mid Landon Emenalo was in Chelsea’s first team squad for the first time on Thursday, as the Blue lost 1-2 to Legia Warszawa at home in Conference League, but advanced 4-2 on aggregate. Emenalo has played some center-back with the U21s, but has been a defensive mid for the most part. He’s played for both American and English youth setups, but most recently with England U17, and is provisionally cap-tied to England.

Fullbacks

Injured: Sergiño Dest (muscle injury, late April)

• Antonee Robinson played the full 90, wore the captain’s armband, and created 1 chance for Fulham in their 0-1 loss to Bournemouth on Monday. Jedi made an error that led to the game’s only goal:

• Nathaniel Brown played 77 minutes and created 1 chance in Frankfurt’s 0-1 loss to Tottenham in Europa League on Thursday. Frankfurt lost 1-2 on aggregate and are eliminated from Europa League.

Center-backs

Injured: Walker Zimmerman (head, late April), Anrie Chase (groin, early May), John Brooks (ankle, late April)

• Chris Richards played the full 90, missed 1 big chance, and made 2 passes into the final third as Crystal Palace lost 0-5 to Newcastle on Wednesday.

Goalkeepers

Injured: Gaga Slonina (finger, unknown)

• Diego Kochen was an unused sub in Barcelona’s 1-3 Champions League loss to Dortmund on Tuesday. Barça advanced 5-3 on aggregate, they’re into the semifinals.
• Matt Turner was an unused sub in Crystal Palace’s 0-5 loss to Newcastle on Wednesday.
