The United States Men’s National Team are back in action tonight as they take on Gold Cup guests Saudi Arabia in their second match in Group D play. The USMNT are coming off a 5-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago, and dare we say they looked good doing it. Of course, it felt like there was nowhere to go but up after their performances in friendlies against Türkiye and Switzerland.
The USMNT hope to take control in Group D with a win tonight against Saudi Arabia, and the odds say they have a 64.9% chance (-185) to win. The last time these two teams faced each other was in a friendly in September 2022, each team’s final match before the 2022 World Cup. “That was a long time ago,” Luca de la Torre joked in press availability on Tuesday. However, he was quick to note Saudi Arabia’s quality and their fearless approach to the game, as evidenced by being the only team to defeat eventual champions Argentina at the 2022 World Cup.
The USMNT will want to wrap up a spot in the quarterfinals, and a win would get them there. However, they will need to continue to improve their creativity and finishing on offense and remain sharp on defense, or the Saudis will make it a difficult battle for them.
