Updated Champions League table and results ahead of Newcastle vs PSV

Newcastle’s penultimate game of the Champions League league phase takes place tonight, as we face Dutch giants PSV at St James’ Park.

After this, our eighth and final league phase game comes next Wednesday in Paris, as we take on PSG to either secure a place in the top eight and qualify automatically (should tonight go well), or land a place in the top 24, meaning a two-legged play-off tie.

So, heading towards the 8pm kick-off a little later on, where do we stand in the table, what were the results last night and who else is playing tonight?

Tuesday’s results

Kairat 1-4 Club Brugge
Bodo/Glimt 3-1 Man City
Copenhagen 1-1 Napoli
Inter Milan 1-3 Arsenal
Olympiakos 2-0 Bayer Leverkusen
Real Madrid 6-1 Monaco
Sporting Lisbon 2-1 PSG
Spurs 2-0 Borussia Dortmund
Villarreal 1-2 Ajax

Wednesday’s fixtures

Galatasaray vs Atletico Madrid (5.45pm)
Qarabag vs Eintracht Frankfurt (5.45pm)
Atalanta vs Athletic Bilbao (8pm)
Bayern Munich vs Union S-G (8pm)
Chelsea vs Pafos (8pm)
Juventus vs Benfica (8pm)
Marseille vs Liverpool (8pm)
Newcastle vs PSV (8pm)
Slavia Prague vs Barcelona (8pm)

Put simply, if we win tonight our place in the top 24 will be secured, meaning next week’s trip to PSG will be a free hit at making the top eight.

Draw tonight and results elsewhere could still mean our place in the top 24 is secured, but our hopes of making the top eight will fade considerably.

Lose tonight and our place in the top 24 will not be certain, and our chances of qualifying via the top eight over.
