United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson Fatally Shot in Apparent Targeted New York City Attack
Brian Thompson’s family is hoping to grieve privately.
After the United Healthcare CEO was fatally shot in New York City Dec. 4, his family taped a statement to the front door of their home in Maple Grove, Minn.
“We are shattered to hear about the senseless killing of our beloved Brian,” read the statement, obtained by NBC News Dec. 5. “Brian was an incredibly loving, generous, talented man who truly lived life to the fullest and touched so many lives.”
The family, which includes Brian’s wife Paulette Thompson, as well as the couple’s two sons, asked for privacy as the New York Police Department continues the search for Brian’s killer.
“Most importantly, Brian was an incredibly loving father to our two sons and will be greatly missed,” the family added. “We appreciate your condolences and request complete privacy as our family moves through this difficult time.”
Brian—who took over as United Healthcare’s CEO in 2021—was fatally shot at around 6:46 a.m. just outside the Hilton Hotel on Manhattan’s Sixth Avenue Dec. 4. The shooting is thought by the NYPD to be a “premeditated, preplanned, targeted attack,” authorities told NBC News.
