October 22 – UEFA has become the first sports rights-holder to join the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) – the world’s largest coalition dedicated to tackling digital piracy.
The alliance will work with industry partners and law enforcement agencies to identify and dismantle illegal streaming operations that undermine legitimate broadcasters and rightsholders, whilst placing UEFA alongside a growing collection of global entertainment companies and studios under the ACE umbrella.
UEFA will take an active role in ACE’s Live Tier, the arm of the organisation focused on combating real-time sports piracy during live broadcasts.
“UEFA joining ACE represents a landmark moment in our global content protection strategy,” said Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA’s Executive Director of Marketing. “This partnership allows us to expand our enforcement capabilities, deepen collaboration with industry leaders and leverage ACE’s proven expertise to disrupt illegal services.”
ACE’s Chairman and MPA Chief Executive Charles Rivkin said UEFA’s membership would significantly enhance coordinated efforts against piracy.
“With UEFA joining the world’s largest anti-piracy coalition, we are strengthening our fight to detect, deter and dismantle online piracy everywhere,” he said.
“UEFA’s membership bolsters ACE’s ability to defend sports content in real time and protect fans and broadcasters across the globe.”
UEFA have said protecting media rights remains “vital” to football’s financial ecosystem, with broadcast revenues continuing to underpin the professional game and its contribution down the pyramid to grassroots development across Europe.
