Kostas Tsimikas has made it clear he is open to returning to Liverpool next season after a loan spell with Roma which is proving “a little tougher” for the left-back to adapt.
Tsimikas was sent on loan to Roma at the end of the summer transfer window but, with no obligation or option to buy agreed, he is currently set to return to Merseyside in 2026.
The Serie A side may welcome that, as head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is yet to fully trust the Greek and more recently has preferred right-back Wesley to fill in for the absent Angelino.
With the jury still out on Milos Kerkez and Andy Robertson‘s contract set to expire at the end of the season, Tsimikas could feasibly be brought back for 2026/27.
And speaking to The Athletic‘s Jacob Whitehead, he suggested he would be open to that development.
“You never know,” Tsimikas said when asked if he was hoping to rejoin Liverpool.
“The most important thing for me is to be healthy, to train hard, to play more games. Next year is a different story for me.
“I want to be successful, I want to win things. Only God knows what will happen in the next year.”
Why Tsimikas has struggled at Roma
Tsimikas had been brought into Gasperini’s squad not as a guaranteed first choice, but as competition for regular starter Angelino.
However a number of mistakes when called upon have seen his game time reduce, starting only three of the last 11 games since Angelino has been sidelined with long-term illness.
Wesley has instead taken up duties on the left flank, with the Brazilian impressing out of position and restricting Tsimikas to brief substitute appearances.
In his interview with The Athletic, the Greece international explained: “At the moment, for me, it’s about getting used to the playing style, and it’s a little tougher for me.
“But I have to try to give my best every time the coach gives me the opportunity to play.
“The team comes first, and I want to be a big part of that, hopefully celebrating at the end of the season with a trophy.”
Liverpool could consider Tsimikas an option next season
Though Liverpool were willing to loan Tsimikas in the summer with no guarantee of a permanent move, that does not entirely rule out a future at Anfield.
Robertson is yet to agree an extension to his deal and if he opts to move on, the Reds will be seeking a new deputy to Kerkez, who is still slated to be the long-term first choice.
Tsimikas’ contract expires in 2027, meaning he would have a year left on his terms in the summer, and if he were to stay it is likely that the club would seek to tie him down to a new deal.
Clearly the preferred option would be retaining Robertson, who was appointed vice-captain ahead of the current campaign and is still a dependable starter.
But that decision could be out of Liverpool’s hands, with the Scot yet to confirm whether he will commit or leave on a free transfer.

There could be a deciding factor in whether or not Tsimikas chooses to stay, of course, in his affinity for Liverpool as a club and city.
“I miss the city. I lived there for five years. I love everything in Liverpool,” he explained.
“They have a special part of my heart. The people are very kind, some of the kindest I’ve ever met in football.
“They’d always try to support the team, in good, in bad, they would always do their best to try to help you.
“I want everything for this club, because from day one, I was fully committed there. I was the Greek Scouser and I always will be, I’ll keep it for my whole life.”
