Bridgerton, Netflix’s extremely popular Regency-era romance series, has returned for a fourth season. As happened with the third season, Season 4 is being released in two parts. The first, consisting of four episodes, dropped on January 29. The final four episodes will drop later this month, and Netflix has now released an official trailer to whet fans’ appetites.
Every season of Bridgerton focuses on a different member of the titular family, who invariably get caught up in a worldwind romance set against the backdrop of upper-crust British society in the early 1800s. Season 4 revolves around Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), the rakish second son who doesn’t want to settle down. But that starts to change when he becomes besotted with a mysterious woman known only as the Lady in Silver (Yerin Ha), whom he meets at his mother’s masquerade ball. The Lady in Silver is actually a resourceful maid named Sophie Baek who snuck into the ball, but Benedict still doesn’t know that. He’s trying to track down the Lady in Silver, but has also gotten close to Sophie, who hasn’t revealed her identity to him. At the end of Season 4 Part 1, Benedict asked Sophie to become his mistress, leaving her stunned.
And that’s where things will pick up in Part 2. Watch the trailer below:
Society Stands In The Way of Love in ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4, Part 2
As if there was any doubt, the trailer makes it clear that Sophie isn’t interested in Benedict’s proposal; as she puts it, “Being a mistress is the last thing I’d ever want.” That was to be expected, but that’s hardly the end of this would-be romance. Benedict and Sophie are still drawn to each other, but Benedict doesn’t think he can be with a maid since it flies in the face of society’s expectations for him. As it’s put in the trailer, “The desire is not the problem, but the world itself.”
Will Benedict and Sophie be able to push past the demands of society and find a way for their love to blossom? If past seasons of this show are any indication, probably, but we won’t know for sure until the rest of the episodes drop on Thursday, February 26.
If you can’t wait that long, this season of Bridgerton is based on the third book in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, An Offer from a Gentleman. And if you want more lush period romance, the new movie Wuthering Heights is making all kinds of waves.
