Trigger Warning’ VR Game Slammed by Fans After New Trailer Release

Trigger Warning’ VR Game Slammed by Fans After New Trailer Release

The Boys is set to come to its explosive, bloody conclusion in April 2026, but those who are looking for more from Homelander, Billy Butcher and the other characters will get the chance to take part in their very own The Boys adventure in a new VR game from Sony. However, while it would be easy to think this could be welcomed with open arms by fans, the game’s trailer has failed to have the desired impact for everything from its title to its visuals. The game blurb reads:

“This new story lets you fight alongside Butcher, M.M., and Kimiko while unleashing unstable Supe abilities to survive Vought’s deadliest secrets. Developed with the creators and featuring cast from the original show, this is The Boys brought to life like never before. Welcome to The Boys like you’ve never experienced it.”

The new trailer for the game, which will be released on Meta Quest and PSVR2, shows several muppet-esque interpretations of some classic The Boys characters as the player moves along what appears to be a theme park ride track. After then being blasted by Homelander’s laser eyes, the trailer shows some quick-cut footage of the gameplay, which puts the player right in the middle of some tense scenes with Homelander, Billy Butcher, Soldier Boy and others.

Fans have not been impressed by the appearance of the game, though, with one comment slamming designers for making the game for “the limitations of the [Meta] Quest first” and for “downgrading visually to meet the hardware limitations of standalone headsets.” However, if there is one thing that has gained even more negativity than the game visuals, it is the name: The Boys: Trigger Warning.

‘The Boys’ Fans Hate ‘Trigger Warning’s Name

There was a time when any game that looked like The Boys: Trigger Warning would have been welcomed with open arms. However, things have moved forward as they tend to do, and now there is a certain expectation among gamers that has clearly not been met in this new offering, and its name has not helped sell it either.

“Y’all settled on Trigger Warning?” asked one comment of the trailer’s YouTube video. Another called it “one of the worst titles of a game in a very long time,” and a third called it a “cringe title.”

The Boys has been an incredibly popular franchise on Prime Video, with the flagship series being a consistent chart-topper for weeks on end around the time of new seasons, and spinoff Gen V being a reasonable enough companion series. Vought Rising will be the next spinoff, taking a trip back into the past to see how Vought became the powerful corporation seen in the main series. The show will be led by Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Soldier Boy, with him and Aya Cash’s Stormfront investigating a murder mystery in the early days of Vought. The spinoff has no release date, but is expected to debut in 2026.
