Anthony Lund is a senior news writer and editor at MovieWeb from a small village in the U.K. with an avid love of all genres of TV and film. A child of the 80s, he is the owner of almost 2000 books, more toys than his children, three Warner Bros. Store Gremlins and a production used Howard The Duck movie script. He has built up a deep knowledge of movie trivia, iconic quotes, and will stand by his belief that Aliens beats The Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2 as the greatest sequel of all time.
NCIS fans who spent more than a decade waiting to see Tony and Ziva reunite on screen have now been given a huge blow with Paramount cancelling the pair’s spinoff series after a single season. Despite being a huge talking point among fans of the long-running procedural, and scoring well in its reviews, it seems that there just weren’t enough people actually interested in the couple’s new adventures to warrant a second season.
The series reached its conclusion just two months ago, and it seemed hard to imagine that it would become a one-and-done. However, fans have now been left angry and devastated in equal measure after the series became the only NCIS show to ever be canceled after a single season.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story,” Weatherly and de Pablo said in a joint statement Friday. “Our deepest thanks go to our extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers, and to our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ who helped make this dream a reality. But most of all, we want to thank the fans around the world who joined us on this adventure and finally got to see Tony and Ziva find their happily ever after.”
