If you are looking for a fun surprise in today’s Connections puzzle, you might not get it but you can get some hints to help you have a fun finish. There are plenty of potential stumbling points here, and at least one of them got me, which you can find out all about below. You can also find a fair number of hints and tricks that will help you discover what you need to get the puzzle right and win the day.
If you are looking for a fun puzzle, the NYT’s Wordle game is the way to go. It has some similarities to the Connections puzzle, but I often find it a little easier in that it feels more difficult to make vague and often subconscious connections between words rather than use the known spelling rules to make a word. English is notoriously bad at spelling words, so that is not always true, but generally speaking, it is a little easier and a little faster.

This category was not the first one I solved, and I did have a different guess before I got to the correct one. BABY, BAE, and BOO all made me think they could be in a category together as nicknames for a partner, but it was not to be. However, once I came back to this one, I saw INDULGE and PAMPER and was able to begin connecting the dots. I eventually found the rest of the words, and I was able to get this one, having only gotten one wrong guess.

This is the first category I got, as after BABY didn’t go with the others, I thought about putting it with RATTLE. However, once I was focused on RATTLE, I started looking at all the other words like HISS and SLITHER, and it seemed like BABY probably wouldn’t go here anymore. At least, I hope a BABY doesn’t start displaying these traits. If it does, maybe something should be done about it, but I figured it was more likely to be a snake and threw in SHED, and, luckily, it was correct.

This category gave me a small amount of flashback trauma. I do not like a SURPRISE, particularly when people are yelling it at me. Although, sometimes it is much more frightening when you are surprised if they don’t say anything, so it’s up in the air. GUESS WHO is a little cuter and less scary, but I also mainly associate it with that particular run of Scooby-Doo, which I will likely be going to watch now that I’ve thought about it. There are a lot of unsuspecting and surprised people in that one.

This one has a lot of words in it that could trip you up, as they were the words I kept trying to insert somewhere else and failed to. CREAK, for instance, I might have put with HISS and RATTLE just as noises that are made. SEE was one that I wasn’t sure about, but I did keep adding and then taking it away. BAE is the most obvious one that could go elsewhere, at least to me, leaving STRAIGHT by its lonesome if you were placing these words elsewhere.
