When a seemingly innocent bystander discovers a dead body, it’s hard not only for such a figure to get drawn into what series of events led to this point, but audiences also can’t help but inquire further. From Agatha Christie novels to Alfred Hitchcock pictures to the TV show Dallas creating a global phenomenon as everyone wondered, “Who shot J.R.?” there’s few premises that engage audiences like a murder mystery, as we try to solve the puzzle right along with the characters. While Rian Johnson’s Knives Out films and TV series Poker Face or Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot films have proven that contemporary audiences are just as excited by such premises, no one has ever done it quite like David Lynch and Mark Frost.
