Fleetwood Mac and fans are currently celebrating 50 years of their 1975 self-titled album. However, what they can never get away from is the bitter feud between lead singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. The two dated from the early ’70s until 1976, and fans heard all about the tumultuous end of their love in their 1977 album Rumors.
In the years after their split, there were a lot of ups and downs, but evidence suggested they still disliked each other. The 50th anniversary of the Fleetwood Mac album is putting the spotlight on them again, as the public just can’t get enough of their dynamic. Furthermore, recent social media interactions have fans wondering if they’re coming back together.
Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham Recently Followed Each Other On Instagram
Fans Believe This Suggests They’re On Good Terms
Just in time for the 50th anniversary of Fleetwood Mac, the band’s first album to feature Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, the former lovers have followed each other on Instagram. It’s no secret that the two have not had the closest relationship or the kindest things to say about each other since their split in 1976.
However, the move suggests they may have finally put their ill feelings towards each other to bed. The pair continued to make music and perform together after their split. The most memorable performance may just be their 1997 rendition of “Silver Springs.” Toward the song’s bridge, Nicks faced Buckingham and started singing to him, and fans never forgot about it.
Now, with the anniversary of what is often referred to as the White Album, Fleetwood Mac is reissuing the record in collaboration with the entertainment company, Rhino. This has led to rumors, no pun intended, that the band is reuniting.
However, the 2022 loss of band member Christine McVie would likely make this very difficult. On the other hand, it would explain why, after years of mutual dislike for each other, the former Fleetwood Mac couple decided to exchange social media follows.
Nicks & Buckingham Have Since Taken It One Step Further
The Two Seem To Be Suggesting A Reunion
Before becoming musical icons in Fleetwood Mac, the former couple had their own musical duo called Buckingham Nicks. Lately, it seems like the duo is more likely to reunite than Fleetwood Mac is. In a post from Fleetwood Mac’s Instagram page, Mick Fleetwood is listening to the Buckingham Nicks song “Frozen Love.” Some commenters think the song has been remastered.
Soon after the post, Stevie Nicks liked it, and she and Buckingham joined in on the fun of teasing their fans. The two simultaneously shared lyrics from the song on their Instagram pages. While Nicks shared the handwritten lyrics “and if you go forward,” Buckingham followed it up with “I’ll meet you there.“
It seems that while Fleetwood Mac seemingly isn’t reuniting anytime soon, Nicks and her former lover might have something up their sleeves. Whether it’s a reunion, a tour, or a remastered album is still unconfirmed. Either option, their fans are over the moon.
Could Nicks & Buckingham Ever Really Be Friends?
The Fleetwood Mac Bandmates Have A Difficult Time Getting Along
The possibility of a friendship between Nicks and Buckingham seems more likely now than ever before. After all, it’s rumored that Nicks kicked Buckingham out of the band in 2018 after the Fleetwood Mac reunion. Nicks also once said that she and Buckingham are not best friends and never will be because of what they’ve been through.
Recent comments from the singer continue this narrative. In a 2024 Rolling Stone interview, Nicks confessed the last time she had seen Buckingham was at McVie’s funeral. Given the circumstances, the two were cordial, but that doesn’t mean they had any kind of great reconciliation.
Nicks explained that she spoke with him for three minutes, adding, “I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.” However, the Fleetwood Mac lead singer had some kind words for her ex, admiring his talent, calling him an icon, and wishing him the best.

Fleetwood Mac’s beloved hit album Rumours was born of sorrow, strife, fear, and catharsis (not to mention a healthy dose of soap opera drama).
However, with the recent social media activity, it seems something may have changed. Sure, the two could be playing nice because they know how much their fans adore their music. However, Nicks is no pushover, and she’d have no problem removing Buckingham from her life if she really disdained him.
As much as they argue, both parties seem to understand that their true problems with each other come from how in love they were when they were young. The story is something out of a movie, which is why, all these years later, fans are so obsessed with it.
However, the rumored reunion suggests the two may have put their past behind them, at least for now, so they could celebrate the magic that they once created together. After all, the two were creating beautiful music long before they joined Fleetwood Mac. They also contributed some of the most iconic Fleetwood Mac songs about each other.
Nicks might just pull out “Silver Springs” and recreate her iconic 1997 performance.
While neither has confirmed yet what they’re up to, it looks like they’re ready to come back together. If there were a tour, that would be the true test of just how capable the two are of getting along.
Nicks might just pull out “Silver Springs” and recreate her iconic 1997 performance. However, for now, it appears that Fleetwood Mac‘s Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham are on good terms again.
