Newcastle United have completed the signing of a new centre-back.
It’s official: Malick Thiaw is a Mag, joining from AC Milan in a deal thought to be worth £30m plus add-ons, which should take the deal to an overall package just shy of £35m.
The 24-year-old has signed a ‘long-term deal’ at St James’ Park and arrives following long-term interest from Newcastle, which NUFC Blog was the first to report on in an exclusive back in June 2023.
Thiaw brings Champions League experience from his three-year stint at the San Siro, also earning his first caps for the German national team in that time.

Released on the club’s social channels, Thiaw talks about his excitement about first hearing we were interested in signing him.
“I’m really excited to join this massive club. I can’t wait to start training and to get to know my new teammates and all the staff.”
“The gaffer showed me his vision and what he wants to do with me as a player and the Club itself, which is really exciting.”
“I think Newcastle speaks for itself. It’s a great club, a big club with passionate fans who I can’t wait to see at St. James’ Park.”
Making the move from the legendary San Siro to St James’ Park, Thiaw brings plenty of Serie A and Champions League experience into our side: perfect for the packed campaign ahead.
”New journey. New challenge. I’m ready. I’m Malick Thiaw, I’m Newcastle United.”
A signing that’s been a long time in the making, adding pace, athleticism and some younger competition for Fabian Schar on the right side of our central defence.
Plus, we’ll no doubt he’ll settle in very quick, owing to a strong bond with former AC Milan teammate Sandro Tonali, and having shared the pitch 23 times together.
Welcome to the Toon, Malick!
