The ‘Poltergeist’ House Is Now Available to Rent

If you’re an avid horror fan, and you can afford to spend a few thousand dollars a night on lodging, then you might want to give this a read. The house from Tobe Hooper’s 1982 film Poltergeist has been remodeled, and today, you can actually rent it. The “haunted house” film location is one of the most iconic of all time (mainly because it was an actual house where the film was shot), and now anyone can stay there — as long as you have a few bucks to spare and a few people to invite, that is.

Listed as the “Poltergeist House,” the film location from the seminal horror movie many believe was cursed is already accepting renters, and some lucky fans have already gotten the chance to stay there. (It was here that an episode of the ghost-hunting show Ghost Adventures was also shot.)

Although it’s gone through some renovations, much of the ’80s style can still be seen in the architecture and in the way the owners have decorated it. If you’re still afraid of the pool scene where skeletons rise from the mud, don’t worry. The pool has been finished, and is actually one of the home’s highlights. The location of the rental is 4267 Roxbury St, Simi Valley, CA 93063, and the official note on the site reads as follows:

Welcome to the Poltergeist House—a legendary film location turned unforgettable stay. This is the real home featured in the 1982 horror classic, now reimagined as a cozy, cinematic retreat in the heart of Simi Valley. It perfectly blends spooky charm, comfort, and cinematic nostalgia. Whether you’re here for the movie history, the subtle supernatural charm, or just a one-of-a-kind getaway, you’ve found a place where stories live on and memories are made.

Staying at the Freeling Family Home Is Not as Cheap as a Hotel

Obviously, staying at a location as important as the Poltergeist house won’t be cheap. Although it’s listed at $800 a night, we did a full calculation of how much it costs to stay for one week, and the price goes all the way up to $13,000, including fees and taxes. Regardless, there are dates already booked, and no, it’s not available to rent during Halloween. That would have been too easy.

The house from the Steven Spielbeg production accommodates eight guests in total, and you can even bring your own pet. It has four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. It even has a vintage TV set playing static all day “for selfies.” The note on the rental site reads:

The real Poltergeist House is more than a movie set. It features four bedrooms, a pool, a spa, a fire pit, and a vintage static TV perfect for selfies. It was featured in the 1982 film and Ghost Adventures 2025. It’s spooky yet cozy. Cinematic magic, family-friendly fun, legendary vibes, and good memories. It’s perfect for families, fans, and brave travelers alike. Come for the legend. Leave with your own story.
