‘The Pitt’ Is Officially Back in First-Look at Season 2

It’s not often that a medical procedural drama receives high praise in its debut season. Sure, long-running shows like Grey’s Anatomy, and classics like ER, are the exception, but both had to start somewhere. Max’s (soon to return as HBO Max) The Pitt has found early success in the world of television, becoming critically acclaimed for its writing, filming style, and overall actors’ performances. When it premiered on January 9, 2025, the series, with a star-studded cast led by Noah Wyle, garnered so many positive reviews that it sits at a 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. For fans, it felt like forever before they received news about the drama’s sophomore season, but the wait is over, as The Pitt has officially begun production on Season 2, with the first details being revealed.

According to the Warners Bros. Discovery press release, Attending Physician Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Wyle) and his team are back in action at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room, nicknamed “The Pitt” by its staff. The series’ highly anticipated second season will debut in January 2026, with the drama taking place over a Fourth of July weekend. The Pitt is shot on the historic Warners Bros. lot in Burbank, California, with exteriors shot on location in Pittsburgh. A cool, behind-the-scenes video was also posted to Max’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The release also states that since its debut, the medical drama has stayed among the top three most-watched titles globally on Max, which comes as no surprise.

Where You’ve Seen the Cast of ‘The Pitt’ Before

With an extensive cast, viewers will certainly recognize the show’s actors and actresses from numerous other television shows and films.

Starring Wyle, who gained recognition on the second-longest-running primetime medical drama, ER, as medical student John Carter, The Pitt follows the emergency department staff as they work to overcome hardships in a single 15-hour work shift at the hospital. In addition, they have to navigate staff shortages, being underfunded and insufficient resources, which are real-life issues many hospitals face today. It’s produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, and created by R. Scott Gemmill, who has previously worked with Wyle on ER.

Season 1 of ‘The Pitt’ Saw a Special Guest Appearance from a Horror Legend

The main cast also includes Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins (a senior resident who clashes with Robby), Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon (Robby’s go-to guy), Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans (the charge nurse), Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan (third-year medical resident), Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa “Mel” King, Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos, Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker, and Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi.

Guest appearances often make a new series stand out, with The Pitt featuring a very special appearance from Brad Dourif, known for voicing Chucky in the Child’s Play franchise. He’s also the father of Fiona Dourif, who plays Dr. Cassie McKay on the series, so it was only fitting that he played her character’s dad as well. In Episode 14, titled “8:00 PM,” McKay’s father, Neil, arrives to bring her son, Harrison, home. During an interview with Variety, Fiona revealed that she believes it was Noah Wyle’s idea to bring her dad on for a guest appearance.

“My suspicion is that it was Noah Wyle’s idea. He has talked to me about my dad’s career in great detail before, so I know there needed to be a device to get Harrison home, and it was probably thrown out in the writers’ room as a very cool idea.”
