The Most Interesting ‘Lost’ Couple Reunited in ‘KPop Demon Hunters’

Fans of Lost have reason to be cheerful as two of the show’s stars, Yunjin Kim and Daniel Dae Kim, have reunited on screen. Even though it’s only in voice, it’s the first time they’ve worked together since the series of great mysteries ended in 2010. The most interesting couple who captivated audiences as Sun-Hwa and Jin-Soo Kwon, now lend their voices to Netflix’s animated musical fantasy KPop Demon Hunters.

Alongside their day job of selling out stadiums, K-pop superstars Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (Ahn Hyo-seop), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) call on their secret powers to protect fans from supernatural threats. Yunjin Kim plays Celine, Rumi’s foster mother and former demon hunter, and Daniel Dae Kim is Healer Han, a doctor who markets grape juice as his voice-enhancing tonic and helps Rumi regain her strained voice. The reunion of Sun and Jin in this project is a welcome return for the two actors.

In Lost, Yunjin Kim took on the role of Sun-Hwa Kwon, but it wasn’t the role she tried out for. It was an impressive audition that hooked Lost‘s creator J.J. Abrams. She explained to GQ, “He was like, ‘You’re not right for this role.’… They literally called like an hour later and said, ‘We love her, we want to write her a role, we don’t know exactly what, but can we hold her?’ So, and then, literally like within a couple of hours, they created the character Sun.” Sun is the daughter of a wealthy and powerful Korean man in business with ties to organized crime. Beginning the series as a seemingly subservient wife who spoke no English, she revealed herself to be multilingual, intelligent, and increasingly independent.

10 Unanswered Questions We Still Have About ‘Lost’ All These Years Later

While it’s unlikely these questions will ever be fully answered, we still have our fingers crossed that a ‘Lost’ revival might offer some clarity.

Daniel Dae Kim played Jin-Soo Kwon, Sun’s husband, a former fisherman who worked as an enforcer for Sun’s father’s business empire. Initially portrayed as controlling and traditional, Jin’s character evolved throughout the series, revealing a loving man trapped by cultural expectations. The couple’s relationship did have its problems, but their love story became one of television’s most interesting and layered romances. Folks often speak of The Package episode, where Sun and Jin were separated by Lost‘s time travel mechanics. Jin was transported to the past while Sun remained in the present timeline, creating painful tension. But in a moving scene, Jin finally sees a photo of his daughter Ji Yeon through Sun’s camera.

What happens when a genre of music with chart-topping success collides with an animated world occupied by demons?

Yunjin Kim and Daniel Dae Kim have broken barriers in representation since Lost ended. Yunjin has starred in projects like Money Heist: Korea and XO, Kitty, while Daniel has since become “a game-changer and disrupter when it comes to advocacy for Asians, Asian Americans and other underrepresented voices in Hollywood,” according to Deadline. And soon, we’ll see him star in and produce Prime’s Butterfly.
