28 Years Later: The Bone Temple is finally here. Premiering on 13 January 2026 and 16 January 2026 in the UK and the US, respectively, the film has been met with extremely positive reviews from critics. The post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Nia DaCosta currently has an impressive 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the site’s consensus describing it as a sequel that “ups the gore while deepening the dread.” Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell’s performances have also been widely praised.
Shot back-to-back with its predecessor, 28 Years Later, the current film serves as the fourth installment overall in the 28 Days Later film series. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple follows Dr. Ian Kelson (Fiennes) as he further explores the evolution of the “Alphas” (infected humans who are proving to be smarter). As humanity appears to collapse, a cult known as the “Jimmys” emerges, worshiping the virus.
If you aren’t planning to watch the film in theaters, here is when you can expect it on Netflix and digitally.
When Will ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Be Available To Stream?
The Bone Temple was funded and managed by Columbia Pictures, a Sony subsidiary. Consequently, it’s being distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing across the globe. This further means that the horror flick will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix once it finishes its theatrical run.
Sony has had an in-house Pay-1 deal with Peacock since 2022, a deal that’s expected to run till the end of 2026. Additionally, Sony has another deal with Disney. Normally, after Netflix’s 18-month “Pay 1” window expires, the rights move to Disney’s streaming services, Disney+ or Hulu, for the Pay-2 window. So, if you are subscribed to the latter two and don’t intend to get Netflix…. And you happen to be as patient as a fisherman… You could wait. Perhaps your children will be old enough to watch the scary scenes with you.
No official Netflix streaming date has been announced, but The Bone Temple is guaranteed to follow its predecessor’s path. 28 Years Later hit theaters on June 20, 2025, and arrived on Netflix on September 20, 2025, 92 days after its theatrical premiere. In line with that, the current film is likely to appear on Netflix’s home page three months from now, somewhere between April 14 and April 18. 2026. That’s unless it performs better than expected in theaters and Sony decides to extend its run.
When Will ’28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Be Available To Rent Digitally?
As is the trend nowadays with major studio films, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will first be accessible on digital streaming via premium video on demand once it’s let loose to terrorize the home entertainment marketplace. By studying previous patterns, one notices that Sony normally releases its blockbusters on PVOD between four and six weeks after they open in theaters.
28 Years Later became available digitally on July 29, exactly 39 days (five weeks) after its theatrical premiere. Once released, it stuck to the standard premium pricing of $19.99 for a two-day rental or $24.99 for a digital purchase on major platforms like Apple TV, Prime Video, and Fandango at Home.
If 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple sticks to the exact 39-day window, then its PVOD date should be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Sony is known to release its movies digitally on Tuesdays, aligning with the five-week pattern. What about 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD? The previous film became available for physical purchase at around the same time it became available on Netflix (September 23). So, copies can be expected in mid-April, too.
For now, the film is only available in theaters.
