The Big Bang Theory‘s next spinoff, Stuart Saves The Universe, is breaking an 18-year trend for the comedy franchise. It has been almost 6 years since The Big Bang Theory ended, and despite that, the show never really lost its relevance due to several factors. For starters, the original nerd-centric sitcom has always been on re-runs through syndication deals, not to mention readily available on streaming. Secondly, prequels such as Young Sheldon and now, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage keep the universe alive. Because of these factors, The Big Bang Theory continues to be very popular.
For all intents and purposes, however, the story of the Pasadena gang is done. The Big Bang Theory finale left the friend group in a satisfying series-capper. Granted that it has had a couple of prequels, the Young Sheldon finale proved how much it outgrew itse original premise of Sheldon’s origins story, while Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage re-affirms that transitioning it into a family comedy was the right call. That said, the flagship is about to find new life with a brand-new sequel spinoff that will focus on familiar faces from Pasadena, led by Kevin Sussman’s Stuart.

Ever since Lorre and Prady launched the franchise in 2007, The Big Bang Theory and its spinoffs have remained a staple in CBS’ programming. In recent years, it has taken over the broadcaster’s prime time Thursday slot, which Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage took over from Young Sheldon in 2024. It will maintain that schedule for the 2025-2026 TV cycle. However, its sequel offshoot, officially titled Stuart Fails To Save The Universe, will be a streaming show on Max instead.

In terms of what’s known about streaming’s record when it comes to comedies, half-hour sitcoms, which will likely be the case for the next The Big Bang Theory offshoot, tend to struggle with being on such platforms, primarily because every season only gets around 10 episodes per season. The good news is that, at least, the show’s cast has already been established.
