The team sheets are in at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, where Newcastle United take on Everton in today’s 5.30pm kick-off.
We head to Merseyside in search of our first away win in the league this season, with a statement win needed after the midweek loss to Marseille in the Champions League.
Everton meanwhile are a notoriously tricky customer, and have only lost once at their new stadium, when they fell to a 3-0 loss against Spurs last month.
Here’s who Eddie Howe has picked today, where a win could take us back into the top half of the table should results go our way…
Newcastle XI: Ramsdale – Livramento, Thiaw, Burn, Hall – Miley, Guimaraes, Joelinton – Elanga, Woltemade, Barnes
Subs: Ruddy, Schar, Tonali, Gordon, J.Murphy, Willock, A.Murphy, Ramsay, Neave
Everton XI: Pickford – O’Brien, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko – Garner, Iroegbunam, Dewsbury-Hall – Ndiaye, Barry, Grealish
There’s six changes from Tuesday’s trip to France, with Nick Pope, Fabian Schar, Joe Willock, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Jacob Murphy are out, with Aaron Ramsdale, Lewis Hall, Joelinton, Lewis Miley, Nick Woltemade and Anthony Elanga come in.
Ramsdale’s maiden league start for us will no doubt go down very well, as many fans have felt Pope has simply made too many errors in recent weeks. The second half collapse against Marseille may be the final nail in the coffin for his certainty as a starter.
No Tonali in the starting XI is a huge call from Howe, and Lewis Miley will have to have a big performance if we wants to cement himself as our ‘fourth’ choice midfielder behind the big three.
And as expected, Kieran Trippier misses out with a hamstring injury along with Yoane Wissa (knee) and Will Osula (ankle) also absent from the squad.
David Moyes is without Idrissa Gueye after his red card incident at Old Trafford on Monday night. A truly tantalising battle could unfold between their wingers, Grealish and Ndiaye, with our fullback duo of Hall and Livramento.
A big three points is needed here if we want to build some momentum ahead of a big December schedule. Howay The Lads!
