Almost eight years ago, Taylor Sheridan did something nobody thought was possible anymore. He made Westerns cool again. The Oscar-nominated screenwriter behind Hell or High Water turned Yellowstone into TV’s biggest hit, and now Paramount+ is betting its entire streaming strategy on its ability to keep crafting modern Westerns that feel both timeless and urgent. Yellowstone pulled 14.7 million viewers for its Season 4 premiere, proving there’s a massive appetite for stories about land and legacy.
March is when that empire expands in two different directions. Marshals premieres March 1 on CBS, marking the Yellowstone universe’s first foray into broadcast television, while The Madison debuts March 14 on Paramount+ with a completely new family and a story that technically isn’t a Yellowstone spin-off at all. One’s a direct sequel following a fan-favorite character, and the other’s a fresh start in the same Montana landscape.
‘Marshals’ and ‘The Madison’ Bring Two Different Sides of the ‘Yellowstone’ World to TV
Marshals follows ex-Navy SEAL Kayce Dutton as he leaves Yellowstone Ranch to join the U.S. Marshals, using his cowboy and military skills to fight crime in Montana. At the same time, he’s dealing with family ties and the mental toll of law enforcement. Luke Grimes reprises his role, and the show brings back familiar faces like Brecken Merrill (Tate Dutton), Mo Brings Plenty, and Gil Birmingham (Thomas Rainwater).
It’s essentially Yellowstone meets procedural drama, which makes sense for CBS. Marshals premieres Sunday, March 1, on CBS and streams live on Paramount+ for Premium subscribers, with episodes available the next day for Essential subscribers.
The Madison takes a completely different approach. It’s a heartfelt study of grief and human connection, and it revolves around a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana. The cast is stacked with legitimate movie stars, including Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell as the Clyburn family, alongside Patrick J. Adams, Matthew Fox, Beau Garrett, and Elle Chapman.
Not a Yellowstone spin-off, The Madison debuts with three episodes on Saturday, March 14, exclusively on March 21. Both Season 1 and Season 2 have already been wrapped, which means if it’s a hit, we’ll probably see the second season soon enough.
Why March 2026 Is a Big Deal for Taylor Sheridan Fans
Most TV shows fight for scraps in the streaming wars. Sheridan’s shows pull massive numbers. They don’t get Emmy love. His six eligible dramas were shut out of Emmy nominations in major categories this year, but they dominate viewership in ways prestige TV can’t touch. Landman, his recent drama starring Billy Bob Thornton, debuted with the highest ratings for any new drama across any streaming platform.
March is essentially a stress test. Can Marshals prove that Yellowstone’s appeal translates to broadcast television’s more traditional audience? Can The Madison stand on its own without the Dutton name attached? And can Sheridan maintain quality across multiple productions running simultaneously?
Currently, there are no fewer than twelve Taylor Sheridan shows due to debut or return in 2026 and 2027, where he is credited as either the sole creator or a joint creator. That’s an absurd output by any metric, and it raises questions about whether he can sustain his pace without diluting what makes his work connect with audiences. But if anyone’s earned the benefit of the doubt, it’s the guy who turned a cable Western into the biggest scripted show on television.
Both Marshals and The Madison arrive in March with massive expectations, and that’s when we find out if the empire’s still expanding or if it’s finally hit its limit.
