Taylor Sheridan’s “Gritty” Neo-Western That “Makes Yellowstone Look Like PBS” Continues to Succeed on Streaming

Following a successful first season run, one of Taylor Sheridan’s best series is back to continue its winning ways on streaming following the premiere of Season 2 earlier this month. Released in November 2024, the neo-Western that some critics say “makes Yellowstone look like PBS” became an instant hit on Paramount+, and even earned itself a Golden Globe nomination.

Starring Billy Bob Thornton, Landman made its triumphant return to Paramount+ on November 16, 2025, with its Season 2 premiere that picked things up a few weeks after the explosive Season 1 finale. The new season is already proving to be just as successful as the first, especially when you consider that the series is currently the second most popular show on Paramount+, per Flix Patrol. It’s bested only by South Park at the moment, which itself is having a tremendously successful 28th season.

Also starring the likes of Ali Larter, Demi Moore, Sam Elliott, Andy Garcia, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph, Landman was created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, and takes its cues from Wallace’s podcast, Boomtown, which traces the activities of major oil companies located in Texas. The first season quickly became the most-watched series in Paramount+’s short history, reaching 14.9 million global households in its first four weeks. Season 2 continued to smash records, as the first episode was the most-watched original series premiere ever for the streamer, reaching over 9.2 million global views within the first two days. What Makes ‘Landman’ So Great?

Like Yellowstone before it, Landman works by dropping characters we can relate to into situations that, while certainly high-stakes, mirror the real-world. It’s one of those shows that seem ripped from the headlines, exploring things like corruption, environmental issues, and the tug of war between classes. Plus, it’s got a fresh setting that hasn’t been explored too much on television, which helps Landman feel like something new despite its timeless themes.

Boasting an overall rating of 77% on Rotten Tomatoes, the series is propped up by the tremendous performance of its star. Remember that Golden Globe nomination we mentioned earlier? That was for Thornton’s portrayal of Tommy Norris, which is about as real as it gets. From the very first episode, you can just feel his exhaustion from battling one problem after another. The supporting cast is equally on their game, making Sheridan’s world feel authentic; a formula the creator has managed to master over the years.

Season 2 of Landman is currently airing on Paramount+, with three episodes in the can so far. Look for the remaining seven to drop every Sunday until its conclusion on January 18, 2026.
