Taylor Sheridan may be leaving Paramount in the next few years, but for now he is continuing to dominate streaming on Paramount+ as Landman has set yet another new record with its Season 2 finale viewership.
Landman debuted on Nov. 16, 2025, with 9.2 million views in the first 48 hours, the biggest volume for any show ever on Paramount+. That was an unbelievable 262% increase on the Season 1 premiere, which itself was a record-setter at the time of its release. While the show has received a lot of criticism over its storylines, character development, and for not focusing enough on the business dealings of T-Mex Oil, that has not stopped the finale of Season 2 bookending the series with yet another massive record viewership.
Season 2 of Landman came to an end on Jan. 18, and pulled in 14.8 million views in 48 hours. This was a 70% increase on the Season 1 finale, and, as you would expect, sets the record for the most watched original series finale in Paramount+ history. To add to that, the season as a whole saw an average increase of 58% for Episodes 1–9 in their first seven days compared to Season 1.
‘Landman’ Season 3 Begins Filming Soon
Shortly after Landman debuted its second season, a third season had already been agreed. The new episodes will begin filming in the spring, with the expectation that the show will return to Paramount+ towards the end of the year.
The second season ended with some big changes hitting T-Mex Oil, with Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris being ousted from his position as president. However, the departure of Thornton’s character from the power seat of the company does not mean his character is going anywhere, despite rumors that he would be leaving the show.
In an interview earlier this week, Thornton laughed off the “AI-written” stories about his imminent exit from the series, reassuring everyone that Tommy Norris will very much be part of Season 3. He told USA Today, “There’s an AI report that Demi and I are a couple now, and there’s one that I’m leaving the show. They have nothing to do with reality.”
With the kind of viewership that Season 2 of Landman has generated, despite the continued gripes from viewers, it is impossible to believe that the show will end with its next season. However, with Sheridan’s future lying at NBCUniversal, and him being the sole writer on Landman, exactly how the future of the series will pan out is yet to be seen.
It was recently suggested that the ending of another of Sheridan’s shows, Mayor of Kingstown, after its upcoming fifth season happened against the wishes of Paramount’s most prolific creative mind. While MovieWeb has not received a response when fact-checking this, if true, then the future of Landman could hinge on the relationship between Sheridan and Paramount bosses as much as the show’s continued success.
Both seasons of Landman are now streaming on Paramount+, where the series is also holding the top spot on the domestic chart.
