Superman Is Hunting for Krypto in Lex Luthor’s Office in New Clip From James Gunn’s DCU Movie

Superman Is Hunting for Krypto in Lex Luthor’s Office in New Clip From James Gunn’s DCU Movie

Krypto is missing! Yes, a brand-new Superman clip (below) reveals the spoilery plot point after having debuted Thursday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Both Superman stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult appeared to represent the film’s press tour, and guest host Diego Luna shared the never-before-seen footage before the two actors joined him on stage. In the scene, a seething Superman (Corenswet) bursts into Lex’s (Hoult) office, demanding to know where his beloved canine Krypto is. Lex feigns ignorance, but it’s clear the bald baddie is up to no good, and he’s undoubtedly the one behind the dog’s disappearance.

Once the Superman stars took the stage, Corenswet made a couple of truly fascinating revelations. The actor, who takes up the enormous mantle of the Last Son of Krypton in Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, admitted to Luna that this was his first appearance on an actual talk show. However, what was even more intriguing was the fact that Corenswet has yet to watch Gunn’s highly anticipated Superman, unlike Hoult and Luna. Corenswet wants to go in blind and experience the movie with a huge audience, and he elaborated about the choice he made to wait during the interview by saying (below):

James Gunn Says His ‘Superman’ Star Is a “Pain in the Ass,” but in the Best Way Possible

The ‘Superman’ director dishes about his film’s leading man just hours ahead of Warner Bros. Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation.

“Don’t spoil anything! I don’t want to know [laughter]. I just figured this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to see a movie like this for the first time with a couple of thousand people in a big theater just before it releases. I didn’t want to spoil that by seeing bits beforehand.”

In fact, Corenswet revealed that he also covered his ears backstage on Jimmy Kimmel Live, while waiting with Hoult, so he wouldn’t even know what was happening in the new “Krypto is missing” clip. Corenswet made it plain that he wants to experience Superman on IMAX, and that he’d finally watch it at the movie’s world premiere.

Nicholas Hoult Realized He Had Zero Shot of Portraying Superman After Meeting David Corenswet

Superman’s world tour picks up next in London on July 2, which gives even more people the opportunity to catch at least a glimpse of James Gunn’s blockbuster hopeful. However, a select number of Hollywood insiders and press were just given the opportunity to watch David Corenswet’s Man of Steel take on Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in the movie’s entirety, and the resulting new Superman reactions are incredibly positive.

When it comes to positivity, though, Hoult realized he didn’t have a chance to play Kal-El/Clark Kent in the film after meeting David Corenswet for the first time. It’s widely known that Hoult auditioned to play Superman, too. However, even though Corenswet ultimately won the role, Gunn was all too eager to offer Hoult the part of the villainous Lex Luthor. Hoult was happy to accept, and he’d made peace with the fact that Corenswet was going to take flight as the Last Son of Krypton after their initial meet and greet. Hoult explained during the same interview by saying:

“This is very awkward. Yes, I auditioned for Superman […] I walked out of doing one of my audition scenes, and I walked out like, ‘Yeah, not bad… okay.’ And I walked around the corner, and there were lots of shadows on the studio lot. And then there was one ray of sunshine and David had taken a seat in this ray of sunshine. And he was sitting there charging up from the sun [Corenswet laughs] like Superman does — getting his power.”

Hoult continued by saying:

“I walked over to say hello. He stood up, and I was like, ‘Goddamn, he’s about an inch taller than me […] Look at his hair. Look at his jawline.’ And then he started speaking. I shook his hand, and I was like, ‘His hands are a bit bigger than mine.’ And then he spoke, and I was like, ‘Oh, his voice is a little bit deeper, too.'”

Hoult knew he was in the presence of the next Superman right then and there. During the interview, Corenswet also admitted his own excitement about not only winning the role but learning that Hoult would play the part of Kal-El’s nemesis, Lex Luthor. Given the quality of the two actors, and their on and off-screen chemistry, which continues to be shown off in clips, television teasers, and interviews from the press tour, it’s obvious that their portrayals of Lex Luthor and the Man of Steel will help elevate Gunn’s long-awaited take on the DC Comics property. Fans can finally watch the film take flight when Superman joins the 2025 box office on July 11.
