Stream Guy Ritchie & Jason Statham’s Crime Thriller ‘Snatch’ Free This March

Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham’s partnership goes right back to the start of their respective careers. They both made their feature film debuts with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998. That partnership has endured for almost 30 years, with 2023’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre being their latest collaboration. However, for their best collaboration, we have to turn our attention back to the year 2000, and luckily, their best movie is about to stream for free.

The turn of the millennium brought about Y2K panic, the height of the dot-com bubble, and, most importantly, the release of Snatch. Just two years after Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Ritchie and Statham returned and perfected the suave crime thriller formula. Ritchie wrote and directed Snatch, with Statham in the co-leading role as Turkish, alongside Stephen Graham as Tommy. Snatch featured a tremendous supporting cast, including Benicio del Toro, Dennis Farina, Lennie James, Ewen Bremner, Vinnie Jones, Alan Ford, and, of course, Brad Pitt.

Turkish and Tommy are two boxing fixers who find fighters willing to take a dive in an underground boxing club. But his latest find, the bare-knuckle boxer Mickey (Pitt), isn’t as keen on throwing fights as they once thought. Meanwhile, a diamond heist in London has an unexpected effect on the underground betting market.

Which Is Better, ‘Snatch’ or ‘Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels’?

Ritchie’s more recent movies, like The Gentlemen, have their respective fans, but Lock, Stock and Snatch will always be the contenders for Guy Ritchie’s best movie. There are cinematic arguments to be made on both sides. Lock, Stock feels freer and more original, but Snatch is a more refined final product.

However, the answer to that endless debate usually boils down to one important question: which did you watch first? People’s favorite Guy Ritchie movie tends to be the one they watched first. People who watched Snatch find it a more refined version of Lock, Stock. Meanwhile, those who prefer Lock, Stock probably watched that first, and thought Snatch was a re-hash of the film they’ve already seen.

Did You Know ‘Snatch’ Received an Unnecessary Remake?

Columbia Pictures

The TV remake of Snatch should have been fed to the pigs. In 2017, the Crackle Network (which is a thing, apparently) released its TV adaptation of Snatch. Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint led the series, alongside Luca Pasqualino, Lucien Laviscount, Phoebe Dynevor, and Juliet Aubrey. Alex De Rakoff wrote and directed the series and hasn’t produced another show since. Unsurprisingly, Snatch‘s TV remake holds a weak 39% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Snatch ran for two seasons on Crackle, coming to an end in September 2018. Thankfully for Guy Ritchie fans, the TV adaptation of The Gentlemen was received far better by fans (and debuted on a streaming network people had actually heard of).
