Stranger Things is heading towards a shocking conclusion on New Year’s Day and fans are demanding the same thing after a divisive second part of Season 5. The series split its concluding chapter into three parts, a move that had many fans scratching their heads, and although the first four episodes were hailed as continuing the strong performance of the previous seasons, Episodes 5-7 have had more criticism from long-term fans who feel things have been getting a little “convoluted” as the end approaches.
The first four seasons of Stranger Things scored upwards of 85% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, but so far Season 5 has struggled with a 66% rating after the release of its latest three episodes. While this seems like a disaster, it is still tracking well above the 30% score of Game of Thrones’ final season, meaning that the Duffer brothers have managed to avoid completely destroying everything they have built over the last several years. At least for now.
Fans Have One Demand for ‘Stranger Things’ Finale
As Game of Thrones proved, you can have as many great seasons as you want, but if you don’t end on a satisfying note, then there is a good chance that the whole series will be reduced to nothing but never-ending gripes and complaints that will ring through social media for years afterward. Stranger Things is now on a precipice that could tip one way or the other, and fans are already demanding that the finale had better deliver what it needs to.
“Stranger Things 5 Volume 2 had its moments but that finale better stick the landing because a lot of this volume was …” said user @SammyJReacts. Meanwhile, @artwithinpod added, “New Stranger Things has some good moments, but the vast majority of it is either a) characters having redundant heart to hearts, or b) characters explaining their ‘theory’ or their ‘crazy plan that just might work’”
However, there are many fans who have found the series delivering as many highs as lows. @01NCUBUS summed it up by saying, “You’ll be watching Stranger Things thinking, ‘damn, this show is a lot dumber than I remember,’ then Gaten Matarazzo and Joe Keery will have a scene together, and it’ll be the best piece of television you’ve witnessed.” Another comment from @elmikewill wasn’t quite sure that any relationship in the series was being developed as much as it should have been, saying:
“The issue with Stranger Things 5 is that the Duffers bit off more than they could chew. Character arcs and relationships are not being meaningfully developed anymore because the supernatural plot is so convoluted, leaving scenes between characters to be too short or rushed.”
However, Stranger Things Season 5 has once again dominated the Netflix TV chart, and with the finale now less than a week away, is seems that Stranger Things is going to be topping the chart for at least another week and well into the first week of 2026. Whether it avoids ruining one of the best sci-fi horror shows of the decade is something we will all find out very soon.
