Stranger Things fans have very quickly slipped into that category of viewer that will not believe the truth being put in front of them because they really wanted to see something else. After spending millions of dollars on the final four episodes of Stranger Things, a select group of fans has decided that it was “a fabrication of Vecna” and the true Season 5 finale will be revealed on January 7. Boy, is that going to turn out to be a disappointing day for them.
Since the Stranger Things finale aired on New Year’s Eve with a two-hour-plus finale, fans have been in denial that everything shown on the night was really the ending of the series. There have been several theories that huge parts of the final season were cut by Netflix, which led to a fan petition demanding the “lost” hours be restored, and now a new prominent theory has suggested that what viewers saw was all a vision in an entranced Mike’s mind. According to this theory, fans will get to see “the real ending” later this week.
As per the X post below, the theory points to Mike being knocked out and unconscious near the end of Part One of Season 5 and remaining in this state throughout the rest of the season, with everything that happens actually being a reality implanted in his mind by Vecna. The theory lists several conversations seen later in the season that it claims directly points to this being the case, including noting that Mike looks confused during many of these conversations and is “trying to work out why nothing makes sense.”
‘Stranger Things’ Is Not About to Pull the “Greatest Twist in TV History”
The reactions to this theory are just as divided as everything else about the series’ conclusion. Many fans are now jumping on something that looks like a redecorated “Restore The SnyderVerse” bandwagon, and fully accepting that a hidden Stranger Things ending will indeed be added to Netflix on January 7. Naturally, there are others who would believe anything else than this is an actual thing that is going to happen.
It seems that there are going to be a lot of disappointed Stranger Things fans on Wednesday. The question is, when this mysterious new finale fails to appear, will that finally put an end to the crazy conspiracy theories? Most likely not. It is now years since Zack Snyder fans believed that it was pure fan-power that forced Warner Bros. to release the Snyder Cut of Justice League, and this has since made regular viewers start to believe that fans have the power, and potentially the right, to make TV shows and movies what they want them to be rather than what their creators intended.
Stranger Things is a series that set out with a very specific brief that the Duffer brothers have made clear throughout the show’s five seasons. They wanted to make a story that was set in one of the most iconic decades in history, that paid homage to the Steven Spielberg adventure movies that have lived on for 40 years and incorporated horror, sci-fi, and fantasy elements straight out of a Stephen King novel. It is pretty much undeniable that, whatever did not happen in the final season that some people wanted to, the Duffers completed the assignment to the letter.
