Star Trek‘s annual First Contact Day celebration takes on a heroic new meaning in 2025, as April 5th is the new date for Trek Talks 4. The annual livestream telethon to benefit the Hollywood Food Coalition, Trek Talks 4 is presented by Trek Geeks, Roddenberry Podcasts, TrekMovie.com, and SyFy Sistas, with Star Trek: Enterprise‘s John Billingsley and Star Trek: Prodigy‘s Bonnie Gordon returning as co-hosts.
John Billingsley serves as co-chair of the Hollywood Food Coalition, which began in 1987 and serves hot, nutritious meals to people in the Los Angeles area seven days a week. Trek Talks came together as a fundraising event borne from the charitable ethos of Star Trek, with numerous actors and creatives involved in Star Trek-related panels that stream live on YouTube and the TrekTalks.net website. All proceeds from Trek Talks 4 will benefit the Hollywood Food Coalition. Last year’s Trek Talks 3 raised $110,205.
Mark Your Calendars For April 5, 2025
Trek Talks 4 was originally scheduled for January 2025 but had to be rescheduled because of the fires that devastated the Los Angeles area. Out of respect for those who tragically lost their homes, including some actors and creatives who are involved in Star Trek, Trek Talks 4 was postponed to a later date. April 5, 2025, was chosen as the new date for Trek Talks 4, which is fittingly also First Contact Day.

Screen Rant interviews John Billingsley about TrekTalks 3 in support of Hollywood Food Coalition and the Star Trek future of Enterprise’s Dr. Phlox.
As seen in Star Trek: First Contact, April 5 is when humanity met the Vulcans. First Contact led to the human race putting aside their differences and working together for the common good. The result was United Earth, which created Starfleet to explore the galaxy. In turn, United Earth formed a coalition with Vulcans, the Andorians, and the Tellarites to found the United Federation of Planets.

April 5 Is A Star Trek Holiday
Trek Talks’ traditional January date made it one of the first major Star Trek events annually that fans looked forward to. However, shifting to First Contact Day in 2025 out of necessity because of the LA fires could not be more suitable for Trek Talks 4. First Contact Day is a holiday within the Star Trek universe as it marks the literal beginning of humanity’s change for the better after meeting the Vulcans. Star Trek: First Contact depicted the original First Contact Day when Zephram Cochrane (James Cromwell) made his historic first warp flight.
First Contact Day is also a day when fans hope for announcements from Star Trek on Paramount+. But even if there is no news about upcoming Star Trek TV shows or movies, the Star Trek fandom now has Trek Talks 4 to enjoy on the franchise’s in-universe date of origin. Even more Star Trek names are likely to be added to Trek Talks 4 in the weeks ahead, and the event itself should be as memorable and positive as in years past. Hopefully, Trek Talks 4 will set a new fundraising record to benefit the Hollywood Food Coalition.
