‘South Park’ Season 27 Release Schedule (to the Best of Our Knowledge)

‘South Park’ Season 27 Release Schedule (to the Best of Our Knowledge)

After a two-year break, South Park is finally back on Comedy Central. The 27th season of the long-running hit kicked off in its usual fashion, mocking everyone and anyone under the sun. This season has also found itself in the crosshairs of the White House, which was apparently unaware that the show is fond of mocking those in power.

Fans of South Park have another reason to rejoice, as this season will be the longest in quite some time. Season 27 will contain 10 episodes, up from the six each in seasons 25 and 26. Another four seasons of 10 episodes each will follow in the coming years, thanks to Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s $1.5 billion deal with Paramount. But this is still South Park, so predicting when we’ll see those episodes is no easy task. Thanks to the show’s famously spotty release schedule, we don’t even know when we’ll get to watch the episodes from this current season. But there are some things we do know, like how a certain US president could continue to be at the forefront. So let’s break down how the next few months might shape up in the South Park world.

South Park‘s 27th season has 10 episodes. That’s the same amount of content as seasons 25 and 26, but those were split between six linear episodes and two double-length Paramount+ specials. South Park hasn’t had a full season of 10 episodes on Comedy Central since Season 23 in 2019. Season 24 consisted of just two hour-long specials, both based around COVID.

So, when will the season release? New South Park episodes air Wednesday nights at 10:00 pm on Comedy Central. They stream the next day on Paramount+. But that’s about all we know. As of this writing, one episode has aired, the July 23 season premiere. It was off July 30, with the second episode set for August 6. But because the show produces each episode the week before it airs, we can’t say what the season will be about. They also take sporadic hiatuses between episodes, so we don’t even know for sure when the season will end. Past 10-episode seasons have usually taken either two or three weeks off. If that pattern holds, we could see the season run until October 8 or 15.

What To Expect From the Season

Trump in South Park

Paramount

Just one episode in, and South Park has already found itself as an enemy of the United States. As soon as that premiere shredded the Trump administration, we all knew the White House wouldn’t look the other way. The second episode teased more of the same, with Cartman sending up far-right personality Charlie Kirk. There’s also an ICE raid and dinner banquet with Trump and Satan. The show is nothing if not topical.

As with every season of South Park, we won’t know the plot of any individual episode until a few days before it airs. This can make predicting the storyline of a season pretty tricky. But if the first two episodes are any indication, expect a lot more Trump-bashing. A teaser from earlier this year highlighted some potential plot points, including wildfires, plane crashes, war with Canada, and a face-off with Diddy in outer space. But at Comic-Con, Parker and Stone revealed that all the clips from that teaser were made specifically for the teaser. None were from actual episodes. The network needed something to promote the new season, but the crew always waits until the week before to begin work. So if you were looking forward to seeing Diddy chase the kids across an alien planet, prepare to be disappointed.

South Park has also managed to work the troubles surrounding parent company Paramount into its new episodes. In the premiere, Jesus was forced to visit South Park Elementary as part of Paramount’s settlement with the Trump administration. You’ve got to love the irony around that, too. Just days after settling a $16 million suit with the president, Paramount shelled out $1.5 billion for five years of new South Park. The same night that deal was signed, South Park proceeded to shred both Trump and Paramount’s cowardice in giving in to him. Money well spent, huh?

Who Is in ‘South Park’s 27th Season?

Obviously, Trey Parker and Matt Stone return as voices for the male South Park residents. Parker is handling primary writing and directing duties, just as he’s done since the beginning. Mona Marshall and April Stewart provide the voices for most female characters. Even 28 years in, the crew isn’t afraid of speaking truth to power. Parker offered a sarcastic “we’re sorry” when discussing the president’s hatred of them at Comic-Con.

Fans can catch Parker and Stone’s hot takes when South Park airs on Wednesday nights. Just check the TV guide first, since we never know how often they’ll show up for work.
