American defender Bryan Reynolds has continued to be one of the top performing right backs in the Belgian Pro League which has led to a former suitor rekindling their interest in his services.
Sparta Prague and Westerlo representatives met this week to discuss a potential transfer of Reynolds to the Czech side, sources close to the player confirmed to SBI on Friday.
Reynolds, a former FC Dallas academy product, is coming off his most productive season yet for Westerlo. The 23-year-old made 38 appearances this season, scoring two goals and adding four assists.
After originally joining Westerlo on loan from AS Roma in 2022, Reynolds made a permanent move to the club in 2023. He’s made 108 combined appearances for Westerlo since then, teaming up with fellow American and MLS product, Griffin Yow.
Reynolds has earned seven caps with the U.S. men’s national team but hasn’t featured on the international level since August 2023.
Sparta Prague has previously shown interest in Reynolds, making a reported €2 million offer to Westerlo in 2024. Reynolds was also on the radar of several EFL Championship clubs in England.
Westerlo finished ninth during the Belgian Pro League’s regular season schedule before placing second in the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff group. Sporting Charleroi edged Westerlo to the playoff spot by seven points.
Sparta Prague have qualified for the Conference League qualifying round after finishing fourth in the 1. Liga Championship group.
