Anthony Lund is a senior news writer and editor at MovieWeb from a small village in the U.K. with an avid love of all genres of TV and film. He has worked for MovieWeb since 2020, and has been in the entertainment industry for 20 years as a journalist, producer, and scriptwriter. A child of the 80s, he is the owner of almost 2000 books, more toys than his children, three Warner Bros. Store Gremlins and a production used Howard The Duck movie script. He has built up a deep knowledge of movie trivia, iconic quotes, and will stand by his belief that Aliens beats The Empire Strikes Back and Terminator 2 as the greatest sequel of all time.

It seems that Venom may not have had his last dance at Sony, as a new movie is in the works and Tom Hardy is expected to have some part in it. However, just don’t expect to see him back on screens as Eddie Brock, as this is not a new live-action entry in the franchise.

Sony’s run at its own universe of Marvel Villian movies did not go quite as well as expected, with the clear exception being Hardy’s Venom trilogy. Now it looks like Sony are hoping to emulate their most successful recent Marvel offerings, the Spider-Verse movies, by developing an animated Venom movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new movie will be directed and produced by Final Destination: Bloodlines pairing of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, with Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach likely to return after having a hand in producing the live-action Venom movies. As for Hardy, it is “understood” that the actor will have some hand in the movie, although whether that is returning to voice the symbiote or in a behind the scenes role is yet to be revealed.

The report notes that a writers’ room is being opened up, but no writer is currently attached to the movie.
