Pre-season at Newcastle United was totally disrupted by the you know who saga.
This ending up a major factor in Eddie Howe not getting the key early signings he had asked the club to ensure was the case.
In the end, only one of the six summer window signings had a pre-season with their new Newcastle United teammates.
On top of that, Newcastle United have then been hit by numerous injuries, including a serious one for Yoane Wissa before he had even kicked a ball for his new club.
The fact that so many injuries have hit the same area of the pitch has become self-perpetuating, as players are needed to return almost as soon as they are fit, with a bigger workload than I am sure Eddie Howe would want. Unable to ideallty manage their minutes and ease them back into the side.
A knock-on effect of this, is that Newcastle United players are not able to take a break, very similar to the situation during our last Champions League adventure.
We are all aware (or should be) that we are on a journey and it will take time for the Newcastle United squad to have the depth needed to properly be able to compete on all fronts. At the same time of course, it is still frustrating to see below par performances and results at times.
However, as Newcastle United fans we need to remain patient and together.
Remember where we have come from and where Eddie has taken us to now.
A real silver lining this past week is finding out we have a very decent new full-back option in Lewis Miley. We have all known for some time that he is a special talent, but what we didn’t know was just how versatile he can be.
Finally, I’m not sure if anyone noticed…but Newcastle United were denied a number of penalty appeal against Chelsea, and one of those in particular, could only have been more blatant if Antony Gordon had been hit with a baseball bat.
Unfortunately, the only people that did not see that as a penalty were the referee Andy Madley and VAR Peter Bankes, plus the Chelsea fans .
You accept that sometimes decisions do not go your way…but for such a clear foul as that, which seemingly warranted only the slightest consideration, whilst the possibility of the slightest of margins in an offside had previously taken five minutes, is to say the least galling
However, that is now in the past and we move on.
I’m sure we will look to take out our frustrations as a motivation against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
