Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer latest from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Arne Slot, Rafael Leao and Harry Maguire that you may have missed…
Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has opened up and had his say on the club’s transfer business and told them to make a move for Harry Maguire, who could leave Manchester United at the end of the season.
That LIVERPOOL board have been very active in the transfer market over the past few windows, have signed alot of players that they believe could drive the club into an era of dominance.
However – Liverpool still have a number of issues that they need to solve in that back-line, as the current crop of players have let in far too many goals that the club would like, and have alot more developing to do before the Reds challenge for that Premier League once again
And speculation has claimed that Liverpool’s top priorities in the coming transfer windows is find a new centre-back, and while Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet is also in the running, the Reds are also keen to add an experience player to the side.
WHAT HAS HAMANN SAID
Speaking to CasinoBeats, he said “You’ve got to give it to Harry Maguire because he got so much stick in the last few years and he always comes back. If he’s available on a free then obviously have to think about it because I think what Liverpool need is more depth at the back.
“Joe Gomez has been around the squad for a long time but he’s never really been a starter for the team. Connor Bradley is out now through injury. We’ll have to see how it affects him when he comes back.
“I think LIVERPOOL need depth in the right-back position too. Frimpong is not a right-back. I think he gets away with playing there sometimes but he’s not a right-back. I think they need a couple of players at the back.”
WOULD LIVERPOOL REALLY SIGN MAGUIRE?
Maguire is a top defender, he is a leader and still has a few years at the top of the game, but to suggest that he would improve that Liverpool back-line is something that Reds fans will be shocked at, we cant ever see this move happening.
If Liverpool do decide to add to that back-line in the coming transfer windows, or this January, then it will be for a younger-fresher player that can eventually take over from the ageing Virgil Val Dijk.
So Maguire to LIVERPOOL wont happen, and to be fair, they wouldnt even consider buying a player from Manchester United surely?
Carragher makes Declan Rice claim NEWS AND GOSSIP
Reds legend and now pundit Jamie Carragher has told Liverpool to sign a midfielder in the mold of Declan Rice, as they need to add a player of his type to that midfield in order to get back playing at their very best.
Last season under Arne Slot LIVERPOOL looked like a side that was going to dominate the Premier League for the next couple of seasons, they had the best defence and best attack in the Premier League, but that has not been the same this campaign.
Arne Slot spent some serious money in the summer transfer window improving that attack, adding players to the squad so the side was more his rather than former bosses Jurgen Klopp, but they have not scored the goals he would like and they have looked shakey at the back too.
There has been alot of players linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks, but if you believe the words of Carragher, Liverpool need to sign a midfielder in the mold of ARSENAL star Declan Rice
WHAT HAS CARRAGHER TOLD LIVERPOOL?
“Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister are really good players, but it ends up with two or three players who do not have great physicality in there,” Carragher told The Athletic.
“The one who stands out every time I watch him play is Declan Rice. What a player, honest to god. That’s exactly what LIVERPOOL need. For me, he is the modern-day Roy Keane.
“I don’t think he’s a Stevie Gerrard, because Stevie was more attacking. Roy did a bit of everything; press high, get the ball off the back four, everything. Declan has the set pieces, too. I actually don’t think we still give him enough praise.
‘It always feels like there’s a but with him. His passing is fantastic. No one can run past him. His set-piece delivery is as good as anything in European football.”
WHAT WILL ARNE SLOT IMPROVE IN THE TRANSFER WINDOWS?
That defence has become a real issue for the Dutch boss, his players have not been performing at the level he would like and adding another defender or two to that back-line really needs to happen.
This January window will probably not see any big players arrive, but if Slot can get someone that can help Virgil Van Dijk, maybe someone like Micky Van De Ven, he could sort out his defensive issues.
That midfield is pretty welly stocked and Slot doesnt really need to add to that does he?
MILAN READY TO SELL LEAO NEWS AND GOSSIP
The likes of Liverpool are on alert amid reports that AC Milan are open to cashing in on Rafael Leao when the summer transfer window opens up in just a few months time.
The transfer window has been open for a few weeks now, there has been alot of transfer rumours regarding LIVERPOOL and who they could acquire, but despite all the speculation, it has been a pretty boring window for Reds fans to witness.
There has been more players leave the club than come in, and with only a few days left of the transfer window left, the Reds are still working hard on getting some of the fringe players in the side out of the club before the deadline closes on Monday.
But there is already talk about the type of players that LIVERPOOL could look to sign at the end of the season, and there has already been some names linked with the club that could get many Blues fans excited.
WHAT IS THE LATEST WITH RAFAEL LEAO?
According to the Daily Mail, LIVERPOOL are looking to strengthen on the left wing and the Portugal international has been cited as a potential option with a price tag of around £80million.
Leao is one of the most highly-prized wingers in European football, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal just three clubs that have been keeping a close eye on him over the past few seasons.
The reports claim that Milan are looking to cash in on Leao at the end of the season if order to raise some funds and freshen up the side in order to start really competing for that Seria A title and Champions League crown, and £80 million would go along way into freshening up the side.
COULD LIVERPOOL SIGN LEAO?
LIVERPOOL have been linked with Rafael Leao for the last few seasons, they have even made some moves, but they have been unable to convince Milan into letting one of the clubs star players leave the side, they have been unable to get a deal done.
But LIVERPOOL could really be a tempting move for Leao to make that is for sure.
