Liverpool head coach Arne Slot praised Jarell Quansah for recapturing his pre-season form after a poor start to the season. Quansah played a pivotal role against Wolves after replacing Ibrahima Konate for the infamous second half at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds won the Premier League game 2-1 but their second-half performance received a lot of criticism for losing control. The Wanderers clawed their way back into the game after going two goals down in the first half against Liverpool.
The Reds faced psychological repercussions due to the controversial late goal they conceded against Everton, combined with increased player fatigue. Nevertheless, securing three points despite not delivering their best performance is a key difference between a champion and a challenger.
Speaking in his post-match press conference (via Liverpoolfc.com), Slot highlighted the rejuvenation of Quansah after the poor start this season. He said:
“I think everybody has seen recently already – because he’s [Quansah] played a few games recently and did really well – and I see in training sessions that he is back to being the same Jarell as in pre-season. I think he had a bit of a hard time after being taken off at Ipswich and then the first two or three games after that when he came in, he was also in a bit of a struggle. He is just showing now what he has shown in the last two or three months on the training pitch, but also when he comes in, that he’s back to his old level.”
Social media is a fickle place where rumours are generated quickly and Quansah faced the brunt of that terrible aspect. His poor start to the season increased the rumours that Slot has immediately lost faith in the young centre-back.
Quansah only established himself as a regular senior team player under the legendary manager Jurgen Klopp during the last season. The 22-year-old deserves more patience, particularly due to the level of quality and on-field maturity that he possesses.
According to Fotmob, the young Englishman enjoyed 100% passing accuracy against Wolves from his 30 passes and 35 touches. Furthermore, Quansah made two clearances, two interceptions, five defensive actions and one late block that received well-deserving praise from the fanbase.
